Background. 10 year old. School put referral in for autism, but was rejected by CAHMS. Child has had sensory issues since she was a toddler. Possibly showing at 2 years old. Extreme sensory issues. She is now 10. And goes to school fine. No academic problems, lots of friends, in fact is popular. Also, gets little obsessions with certain other girls, copying their style. Voices etc. When child gets upset about something. Could be anything no.matter how nice the parent is and Patient the child starts hitting the parent. The parent then has to apologise continuously until the child is satisfied that the parent means it. Even though it was the child having a meltdown, and trying to hit the parent. She is a lovely child, hyper and so adorable sometimes itsnhard to believe how quickly they turn, she wants hugs sometimes, Is nice, kind. But can be so rude. Horrible and exhausting for the parent..what type of therapy should be considered? Is this a neurodiversity..Also, she does have a sensory issues diagnosis and is going to secondary school next year. Thanks

I suspect your child has no insight into why they behave this way. It may be difficult to engage them in therapy. I would look at support for you as parents, to manage the situation at home better. NVR might be a good start. We've tried therapy for our child three times now, it hasn't made any difference since they don't think anything is wrong with them. So we now focus on how we can manage homelife.... Good luck!
