I really want to work with young children

Im getting obsessed. Is ther any way to have a job where you work with young children that doesn't involve years of studying and expense. Im 54 that's the problem. Have worked in admin for 25 years. Before that I did music. I'd love to be a play therapist but it seems a bit impossible without studying for years. I have been volunteering helping families who are struggling. One of the organizers told me she did admin for many years but was able to move into working directly with the families just by being around. Just wondering does anyone have any ideas. I applied to foster but was refused as I work and they want you to be stay at home mum. I applied to do respite care but gave up in the end there were so many hoops to jump through. Not that that isn't right there should
Be but anyway it wasn't right for me at the time. Am feeling sad about staying in my job for another 10
Years and being so bored and unfulfilled. Anyone any idea of a short cut?

Could you look for a job as a play assistant at a preschool? That was part of a previous job I had, and no child-based qualifications were needed .

Or help at toddler group (admittedly, this is voluntary).
