What popular tv shows could you not get into, despite really wanting to like?

Stranger things is just my sort of thing, yet despite how many times I tried to give it a go, I just could not get into it

Fleabag. I've tried three times.

3luckystars · 14/10/2023 13:14

Love Island.

They all loved it at work and I tried to watch it so many times but found it really hard to watch.
I think they will look back in a few years at this programme and be horrified at it. I think pretending you like someone and even kissing someone and pretending to be in a couple when you are not sure, just to stay on the tv, is twisted.

Also Breaking Bad and Ozark. Actually I didn’t want to like them but DH watched them all. I can’t believe people are saying Game of Thrones though 😵.

Line Of Duty. Watched the first episode but just couldn't get into it

I really wanted to like Yellowstone as I love western themed shows. But every single character was just so incredibly unlikeable. I stuck it out for most of season one before giving up. It was just tedious. I have to have someone I can sympathise with or at least find likeable in a show. Watching horrible people do horrible things over and over is just dull.

Game of Thrones. Or 'tits and dragons' as Ian McShane called it. Can't get excited about fictional kingdoms I think.

Me neither - but I actually love science fantasy. I think having read the books didn't help me like it, but yes, for all the effects and glamour around it, I thought it made more of women's bodies to sell it than strong characters.

MrsDrudge · 14/10/2023 13:24

Yellowstone
Breaking Bad
Motherland

BrainWontWorkAnymore · 14/10/2023 13:37

Gave up on tv and all other options like Netflix, Apple TV etc for this reason. I watch the occasional documentary on catch-up and some sports.

AliasGrape · 14/10/2023 13:47

Another one saying Breaking Bad here. Didn’t get past first few episodes. Ozark we did a few series because DH was enjoying it (he’d already watched Breaking Bad before we met) but I eventually gave up and left him to watch it by himself.

In both cases I just thought ‘you’re all terrible people and I don’t really care what happens to you, also you mumble too much’.

That said, I felt the same through much of Succession but we’re just coming to the end of it and I love it now.

When it comes to trashy reality stuff, I’ve always quite enjoyed TOWIE and for a few series of Love Island I was hooked though I haven’t bothered with the last few. I also absolutely binged the first series of Love is Blind on Netflix, I really like having something mindless, trashy and addictive to get sucked into but whatever else I try in that style I can never persevere with because they’re just awful - I’ve no idea what my criteria is because the stuff I’ve listed that I enjoyed is awful too, but the kind of awful I can enjoy for some reason?

Shodan · 14/10/2023 13:48

Some of them, I needed a full weekend on my own and in the mood to binge watch- Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders- but enjoyed them when I did. Many years after everyone else had raved about them though. I'm still waiting to be in the mood for The Witcher.

Others I've tried very hard to get into but just couldn't- Motherland (she's just irritating), Breaking Bad.

Some I've watched a few seasons and then just run out of steam (Grey's Anatomy, The Walking Dead).

And thee are one or two for which I've discovered an inexplicable fondness, which baffles me and those who know me- Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries 😳

whiteroseredrose · 14/10/2023 13:59

Mad Men.
Ozark.

milenat · 14/10/2023 14:02

Succession - completely baffled by the hype
Happy Valley
Euphoria

piscofrisco · 14/10/2023 14:05

The sopranos. And I love things about the mafia and such normally.

Longlive · 14/10/2023 14:06

Game of thrones, just found it awful. Watched about half series 1.

Yellowstone, I love 1883 and 1923 but Yellowstone is to much like Dynasty with sex for me.

chuffachuffchuff · 14/10/2023 14:10

Breaking bad. Didn't get it at all.

Game of thrones. Same

incognito50me · 14/10/2023 14:11

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 14/10/2023 10:35

Killing Eve. I really tried, but it was terrible.

Indeed. My DH watches it, I have to leave the room when it's on.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 14/10/2023 14:38

Black mirrors

GrouchyKiwi · 14/10/2023 14:43

The Walking Dead. DH and I tried two or three episodes and hated everyone so gave up.

Outlander. 1 episode was more than enough.

I really wanted to like Firefly Lane as a relaxing, cosy watch, but the characters are far too annoying so that was the end of that.

SquigglePigs · 14/10/2023 14:49

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 14/10/2023 10:35

Killing Eve. I really tried, but it was terrible.

Yeah, we made it through season 1 (thought it started pretty well but then just kinda wanted to see it through) but we couldn't be bothered with season 2.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/10/2023 14:49

Boardwalk empire

FinallyFinalGirl · 14/10/2023 14:50

StrictlyComeDancing. Tried every year only to give up after three or four weeks. I always loved Saturday night Tv growing up (3,2,1 etc) but just can't like this.

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 14/10/2023 15:02

The Wire
Breaking Bad, in spite of my son telling me it's the best TV series ever! not for me it wasn't
Ozark
Schitt's Creek
Fleabag I thought was alright, massively over- hyped though didn't get all the accolades heaped on both the series and Phoebe Waller-Bridge Hmm

CarolinaInTheMorning · 14/10/2023 15:20

Friends
Game of Thrones
Grey's Anatomy

CathyorClaire · 14/10/2023 20:58

I'm standing tall for Breaking Bad, Orange Is The New Black. Sons Of Anarchy (one of the best endings ever IMO). Mad Men (although one of the worst most mystifying endings ever also IMO) and Ozark.

All gripping.

House (and I watched all of it despite medical dramas not holding much appeal) not so much.

Lone painkiller addled doctor heroically identifies vanishingly rare illness every single episode.

Yeah, right.

Bassetlover · 14/10/2023 21:26

Downton and GOT
