Showering the gym - practicalities…

So the lovely new gym has cubicles, all nice and clean etc but nowhere to hang anything/shelves/hooks etc. No towel hooks by the outside door.

I just sling my towel over the door and hope it doesn’t get too wet but I’m as blind as a bat without my glasses and take in shower gel/shampoo in small bottles (so I don’t have to lug them around) and have to place them in the floor (you need to keep your hand on the water button).

last time I couldn’t find my small bottle of gel - it’s black and white and the floor is speckled grey so I couldn’t see it (the lighting is a bit gloomy too). I assumed it had rolled away but I stuck me head in on the way out (with my glasses on) and spotted it.

What do other people do? I was looking for a small gizmo I could take in the stick to the walls (that isn’t fabric as I go several times a week and drying it in the office may offend my coworkers!

I had a plastic mesh bag that I hung from the shower head so I didn’t have to bend. It dried quickly.

I use one of those reusable mesh vegetable bags that you can get in supermarkets. I’ve sewed the drawstring onto the bag so it stays open, and I hang it on the shower press button if there isn’t a hook. I keep it in a waterproof washbag in my gym bag.

If you can sling your towel over the door then what about a small over the door basket? Or an over the door hook and separate basket?

Orangello · 14/10/2023 09:59

Ask the gym to install some hooks and shelves

I sling my towel over the door and put my shower gel on the floor. I have a pool bag which either has to sit on the floor, or hook over the shower door knob.

If it would help, you could try brightly coloured bottles to make them more easily visible - I have silicon travel sized bottles from Amazon which are pink and blue.

You really have to keep your hand on the water button? that must make it hard to wash. Usually they dispense e.g. 60 seconds worth of water before you have to touch the control again.

Women are SO ingenious!

First burst of water is about a minute - then you have to keep your hand on the button. No way to change the temp!

I just stand and use my back to press the button continuously.

Good thinking Batman.

Just let the water go off while you're putting shampoo on. It saves water and you have two hands.

I'm usually showering post swim so just tuck the shampoo bottles in the top of my costume.

For camping I have one of those roll up hang up washbags and keep a butchers hook inside it so I can hang it anywhere

That's a pain. Even my scrimper council gym lets you change the temperature (and doesn't make you stand there with your hand on the button).

It’s a nice sparkly new gym too. Thankfully it’s very clean, stick to the single sex changing /showers and is pretty quiet most of the time.
