Potentially stupid question about bed socks

I wear socks to sleep in during cold weather, otherwise I can’t sleep when my feet are cold.

What exactly are bed socks? Are they looser fitting than normal socks? Are they warmer? Or are they just a capitalist marketing ploy to get us to buy more socks? 😅

They’re much thicker in my experience. I wear them as normal socks once the weather turns and recommend M&S for really soft ones.

I have some alpaca ones and they are lovely in the winter, definitely looser than normal socks so more comfy. I more wear them so I don't get cold feet when I get up for a nighttime wee.

They also usually have less tight elastic around the ankle so as not to impede circulation at night.

I have popcorn socks that I wear in bed during the cold weather. Usually about £5 for a couple of pairs from sainsburys or matalan.

Generally looser, warmer, and less hard wearing (as they don't need to stand up to being walked around in) than non-bed socks.

Looser, so easy to push of with opposite foot when half asleep if too warm
