If you have period pants in lighter colours

This feels like such a weird question but here goes

I recently got some cheeky pants but have only used them as tampon back up because I'm scared to trust them on their own. So while I find them comfy I hadn't tested them with blood yet.

Today I soaked out my tampon and didn't even notice because I felt so dry. My cheeky pants are light blue, and when I took them down the crotch area was light brown coloured on the outside. I assumed they had leaked straight through and rinsed them straight away. But then I saw my jeans were totally clean. Does the crotch of period pants look brown on the outside when they have blood in them, even if not leaking? I'm kicking myself that I rinsed before establishing whether that was a leak or not. Either they coped with my tampon leak really well or really badly and I don't know whether they're fantastic or terrible!

I can't really help with this but I've thought about getting white/nude for white trousers but worry that the blood would still be visible. So would double up with a tampon for insurance!

No if they've gone red/brown they've leaked.

But it sounds like you've leaked through the front where's there's no absorption. Is that right?

Hmm no the leak was from the crotch area, underneath. It seems strange they could have leaked firstly because I felt so dry and didn't notice, secondly because my trousers were clean, and thirdly because I really don't think it could have been that much blood considering I wasn't leaking half an hour previously and didn't feel anything coming out. I'm disappointed but also confused!
