Help me understand the Israeli/Palestine conflict

Its something that has rumbled on my whole life and whilst I recognise all the key names, I don’t have a good understanding of the conflict.

It’s a war between the Palestinian Arabs and the Israeli Jews? The area is split into 4? The Gaza Strip, Israel, The West Bank and Jerusalem (neutral?). The Gaza Strip and The West Bank are Palestinian but controlled by Israel? From what I read there are more Arabs than Jews in the area?

I just can’t get my head round it in a concise manner, but it feels like something I should know more about and have a better understanding. I went to a CofE school so many of the place names are so familiar.

As previous posters, I was also going to recommend the rest is politics podcast.

I recommended my husband listen to it, who has listened to me go on about Israel/Palestine for the 15 years we've been together and never really taken it in. He found it useful too.

I looked earlier for the "simple news" explanation bur couldn't find one.
