What's with all the posts being taken down

I have been following a couple of chats recently when they were suddenly deleted by Mumsnet. To be honest I wasn't surprised as I was starting to be suspicious about a couple of things. Do people have such sad and lonely lives that they live out fantasies on Mumsnet or are they just trolls. It is a shame for the genuine posters as you start to be suspicious of everyone.

Even if they're troll posts, a lot of them tend to be pretty entertaining, and I'm always disappointed when they're deleted.

It's nothing new.

NiceViper · 13/10/2023 08:57

It's usually trolling

Sometimes directly so, other times a previously banned poster trying to sneak back in

after being here a long time, I can spot a troll a mile off these days. They start a thread with something quite dramatic, which is a moving situation: ie the drama is set to happen and possibly conclude over several hours/days/weeks. The idea is to get a large, captive audience who return day after day to see what happens. I think people just enjoy getting lots of attention, even if it's for a
made up story.

Ah okay. I'm a bit late to the party with Mumsnet so didn't realise it was a common thing.

Good to know! I need to become more savvy.

I could understand posts from banned posters being deleted. Also anything asking for money or dealing with illness.

Unless a post is like that or repeated on other SM I’m not sure the reason that they are deleted.

You forgot certain sacred themes, like an abusive DH. How dare anyone question that.

(A good recent one was the 'I've got a promotion and I'm moving to LA' fantasy poster who literally just kept saying 'I want the promotion!' like some kind of chick flick character...

She apparently feared and cared about her DH's reaction so much, but didn't spare a second's thought as to whether he would be able to work under any visa in the US.

Apparently was a loving mother of 3 kids, but it wasn't even on her radar that the different education system in the US was different, given the fact that her kids were due to sit the GCSEs in the UK soon (according to their fictitious ages), etc etc.

Not to mention she had no idea how headhunting vs relocation worked, had to spell out that LA stood for Los Angeles despite apparently being from the film industry, etc etc.

That was a fairly amusing one. And yet MN users lapped it up 🤣🤣)

I think I must be a bit gullible sometimes. I become invested in the thread then something is added which doesn't quite seem right (think: to top it all I am now pregnant with twins) and I do start to question it.

A little off subject but does anyone know, if someone (troll etc.) is 'banned' from here, are they banned for a set time? And how can they be banned exactly!? I'm guessing by email, no reason why - just interested really!
