Wilko alternative shop? 😢

I’m still in mourning for the loss of our local Wilko😭 I live somewhere where there aren’t many ‘big’ discount type shops so Wilko was my ‘go-to’ for so many household things as well as Halloween, Xmas, garden stuff..

Looking for alternative shop recommendations? I need to get some Halloween bits and not sure where to go (resent giving Tesco / Asda any more of my money - which is probably a bit irrational I realise).

Wilko will replace "I could have got that from Woolies"

Luckily in the NE we have Boyes that will nicely sit alongside the likes of Home Bargains and Poundland.

Home Bargains is the best by a zillion miles. We have two large B&Ms in our town but I drive 30 mins to visit Home Bargains instead.

Our Wilko is becoming a Poundland.

I will miss it too op, people say B&m and H&b but we don’t have either around here they are too far to travel to so not worth it

Agree, home bargains is a keeper. It seems to have quite a few old school throwbacks in the sweet and food section. Wham bars? Mini wham bars? Big Red gum?Home Bargains. They also have a good selection of bathroom bits and, AND, Riesling and Gewürztraminer wine!!! I admit that the latter items are the main reason that I ever pop into Home Bargains. But if they are incorporating a cafe into the shop then that is a whole different level I can park DH and a few of the DC there while DS1 and I have a meander. And I don't have to worry about the parking meter either as they have their own car park! Amen!

They opened a Savers in my local shopping centre literally next door to Wilkos, about a week before Wilkos shut down. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound!

I do shop at Home Bargains - secondary shopping street, handy bus route - but it doesn:t have the range of goods Wilko had

Wilko was in the town centre, could get a bus

The Range is on a bus route but I used to go in with a list of 6 or 7 things and come out with 1, maybe 2. Almost entirely tasteless tat. Have given up on it.

B&M is on an out of town retail park - and the bus route to the park has just been axed

I am going to muss Wilko.

They were good to staff before that, it's a real shame about the mismanagement because without that, I think they would have been ok. If they'd focused on the value side of their ranges and not added the more expensive items, moved more towards retail parks as well at least downsizing their remaining town centre shops instead of having very large stores which were too expensive due to location, with high business rates on top. Poundland/B&M/Home Bargains on the high street are much smaller and cheaper.

I miss it too! We have a home bargains near us which is okay, but I do prefer Wilkos.
