How to get into Cybersecurity/IT?

I’d like to have a career change and I am looking into cyber security. I’m aware I’d probably start as a first line supper/helpdesk tech for my first role in this IT sector. So I’m wondering how do I get into this?

is Comptia a+ and security+ a good starting point? Is there a way to study the courses for free and then just pay for the exam?

what route would you suggest? I am quite IT literate, great with software etc. I’m in my late 20s so don’t think I’m ‘too old’ yet haha. Just not sure how long I should prepare for it to take me to get into the sector and if there will be job security?

(ISC)2 have a very entry level certification you can take for free (with training).

It might be helpful in thinking through which security career path appeals to you and choosing further training accordingly.

Certified in Cybersecurity Certification | ISC2

Certified in Cybersecurity from ISC2 is the new entry-level certification from the world’s leading cybersecurity professional organization known for the CISSP.
