Will this sofa colour be a labour-intensive nightmare?

It’s a velvet type finish. There are no kids or pets but am I going to regret this choice? Has anyone got a dark sofa in a velvety fabric? Do you have to hoover it all the time ?

Surprisingly, I have a blue velvet one. It does need vacuuming very regularly, yes. We had ours stainproofed, so marks wipe off. Despite it being labour intensive, I do like it and it doesn’t take long to clean it.

I have a dark grey fabric (soft brushed fabric, not quite velvet) sofa, three children and a cat. It fares well, sometimes a brush off of crumbs needed, but has lasted all well.

I bought an emerald one and its a nightmare tbh. Its a magnet for bits and the short pile is flattening so it looks dark green and emerald even after hoovering 😒

Thanks this is good to know. Instead of the black velvet, I’ve gone for the charcoal non velvety fabric as I’m not sure even if I get a sample that a small square will give me an idea of how the velvet will work on a whole sofa - may be it will look too patchy or something, so hopefully just a matt fabric will eliminate that concern. This is a radical colour choice for me as I always go for light neutrals.

I've got a huuuuuge dark blue velvet sofa. With kids, dogs, and cats, it's the worst decision I ever made.

It looked utterly beautiful. For one day. I imagine without kids and pets you'd be fine though.

Depending on how the nap goes, it does change the shading a bit, but I like that.

I had a navy blue one. Lasted 3 years and I couldnt cope any longer. Spent sooooo much time cleaning it

I have dark navy velvet cushions and they are dust magnets.

I prefer not to see the dust thank you.

I bought a sofa similar to that colour, but it’s a sort of tweedy fabric with different shades woven in. It’s been great at not showing crumbs and bits.

But it’s been a nightmare with my cat who likes to scratch and pull at the threads. He only does the arms and not the cushions.
