What on earth is a global day of jihad?

please tell me this means peaceful protests in city squares: not a day of violence

Appalling that jewish people and those of jewish decent are being targeted within the UK - there needs to be a unequivical response to this by the police and the government. Those targeting jewish people do not show British values and basically have no place in the country

After the attacks at the weekend and the multiple demonstrations supporting said attacks, Jewish children being told not to wear their blazers to school for fear of drawing unwanted aggression, kosher restaurant being vandalised, Israel flag flying in solidarity being removed by a masked individual and the Palestine flag replacing it in Sheffield and now a call to arms for all Muslims wherever they may be, you really think this is a "ridiculous" concern and not worth discussing sensibly?

Apparently Jihad has several meanings and various rules, although I'm not sure many are followed!

The rules of Jihad

  • The opponent must always have started the fighting.
  • It must not be fought to gain territory.
  • It must be launched by a religious leader.
  • It must be fought to bring about good - something that Allah will approve of.
  • Every other way of solving the problem must be tried before resorting to war.

but to be really clear Jihad just means struggle, it can mean many things, but it is a struggle for Allah. there’s a really famous hadith of a man who came to the prophet and said he wants to join jihad of the time, and he asked the man are your parents alive, the man said yes and he said then your jihad is with you parents.

so a day of jihad, should be biting your tongue when someone says something nasty to you, or praying or fasting when you aren’t obligated to or treating your parents to a day out or whatever, but some how i really doubt what’s meant. Rather it’s a dog whistle to the nutters, the groomed, the one who use Israel/ Palestine as grounds to legitimise their anti Jewish hatred / islamaphobia and deepen the divide that already exists in so many of our communities

I probably won't ever support Palestine over Israel because Hamas kicked off the current insurgency on 7 October 2023 with murder and rape.

Israel is a democracy with freedom of speech. regardless of whether you like what is spoken, or not. Israel tolerates an individual's sexual preferences. TBH, I think both options are shitty, but by a hair. I'd choose Israel over Hamas which has not called an election in 15 years and which has not spent the aid donated by the world to improve the quality of life for the Gazan population. Israel has provided the power and water and infrastructure for Gaza. Hamas appear to have built tunnels.

So NO, big no. I really don't support either side of this conflict, but I do think on balance, Israel is a better, fairer country.
