What on earth is a global day of jihad?

Apparently an ex Hamas leader has asked for this.

please tell me this means peaceful protests in city squares: not a day of violence

This is no joke! How can you be flippant? Txxt

caringcarer · 12/10/2023 17:07

PurpleChrayne · 12/10/2023 15:35

It means "kill the Jews."

I'm fucking terrified. Not sending my daughter to school tomorrow.

Keep your DD home safe. It's shocking that Jewish schools have to have security in the UK. I hope anyone coming out in support of this despot ex terrorist leader is arrested and charged with inciting violence and hate crimes.

Israeli Arabs are keeping their heads down (obviously, as they are far better off under Israeli rule than under some maniacal Islamic regime).

Both are shit options for them.

I assume you know nothing about Israeli arabs? They make up 20% of Israelis. They have full citizenship, voting rights etc. They work as doctors, teachers, judges etc. There's an Arab judge in the Supreme Court.

Please explain why that's a shit option?

Meta123 · 12/10/2023 15:52

The reports of this also are so misleading. It is by the daily mail lol. There are calling on Arab countries to protest. Jihad is just an Arabic word, they can't change the language just because the media report the word in a hateful way.

It was on the radio on news Chanel staying the ex Hamas leader called for an international day of Jihad. They are not just calling on Arab countries but all countries. Today there is a supportive march for Hamas in Paris.

I just hope school doesn’t announce it last minute as always as I’ve not got a costume ready

They’ll probably ask for money as well…

yazoolove · 12/10/2023 17:18

A Hamas leader isn't a leader to any Muslim follower across the globe but from my understanding their call is so that wherever you are, you protest at the same time to bring attention. If you're in a Muslim country perhaps it's a call to wake up their idle leaders instead of them condemning them on twitter.

fieldsatnightfall · 12/10/2023 17:26

I think it's very naive of posters suggesting this is a peaceful call, regardless of the real meaning of jihad.

EasternStandard · 12/10/2023 17:29

Bloody hell

The word jihad means struggle and there are two types.
The bigger jihad is one of personal struggle striving to get close to Allah as best as one can by abiding to the teachings of the Quran.
The smaller or lesser jihad is that of so called holy war. This holy war has strict rules.
Hamas terrorists are not Muslims as their actions have shown and they do not care about Palestine again as their actions have shown. They have more hate for Israel then they have love for their own people.
I cannot speak for all Muslim people but I can speak for Muslims from the Alevi branch of my family through marriage. They are as appalled by Hamas as they were by ISIS and do not think Hamas has done anything constructive to improve the lives of Palestinians day to day in Gaza and have definitely done nothing to help bring about a solution to the Israel - Palestine problem.
We need to be measured with our comments - not all Muslims support Hamas just as not all Jews support the right wing Israeli government.
All Muslims and all Israeli’s want a solution to the Israeli Palestinian problem. Such a shame neither side has decent leadership to help bring together a solution. Such a shame the world has not come together strongly enough to broker peace. Such a shame so many lives have been lost before Saturday, during Saturday and after Saturday. Such a shame hate and blame will continue to fester in the region.

They do keep trying don't they? One day there'll be enough of them to see it through unfortunately.

Well, in many places in the UK ( and also France and Germany) that is already the case.

BethDuttonsTwin · 12/10/2023 18:44

I think it's very naive of posters suggesting this is a peaceful call, regardless of the real meaning of jihad.

It’s purposeful. The naïveté. Many are still caught in the trap of “if we are just nice and tolerant they’ll see that and won’t attack us”. It’s not entirely their fault, it’s the received wisdom we’ve been fed for years as a society. They are afraid and so they pretend there’s no threat and that is ludicrous and bigoted to even speak of it.

And if we are being honest, they are not wrong, there’s very little else we can do.

Noicant · 12/10/2023 19:07

Oh please Hamas is a violent Islamist organisation, they aren’t calling for people to engage in spiritual self interrogation or peaceful protest. If it were a sufi scholar yeah I’d be like “he’s probably talking about internal Jihad”. But given it’s hamas then no. They are basically isis with slightly better PR and less reach.

Also really ask yourself if you are ok with anything said by an organisation who’s members have raped and murdered women, murdered children and taken hostages and now hiding behind their own people. You don’t have to like the Israeli government to think hamas are abhorrent. How about protesting Hamas holding hostages, how about demanding the release of prisoners so Gazans can have water and electricity. It’s within their power to restore basic utilities to Gazans.

Rolypops · 12/10/2023 19:48

Glad some of you are having a bit of a laugh at this. I wonder how funny the parents of the Jewish kids whose schools have closed, or whose children don't feel safe taking public transport, or wearing their blazers to their Jewish schools find it all. Whilst the DM of course are going to whip everyone into a hysterical frenzy about all of this, I don't think scoffing at it is sensible either. Judging by the raucous celebrations at the loss of Jewish life we have seen in this country this week, that the threat to them is a credible one and I am so disgusted by it all.

EasternStandard · 12/10/2023 19:53

This was on another thread. I can’t see why people would jest on all this

The three Jewish schools in Amsterdam will remain closed tomorrow as a precaution, writes Het Parool. The decision appears to follow from Hamas’s call for the Islamic community to mobilize on Friday.

bombastix · 12/10/2023 19:58

It is not funny to me. If anything like this happens in the UK I hope the perpetrators are arrested on public order grounds. Claiming your special right to protest in religious grounds is a ticket to different religions in the UK claiming they are more important, and they aren't.

Edited

Two London primary schools are closing too.

Appalling that jewish people and those of jewish decent are being targeted within the UK - there needs to be a unequivical response to this by the police and the government. Those targeting jewish people do not show British values and basically have no place in the country

Yes. Israel is our ally and Jews are part of our communities. They are our friends and neighbours. If people think they can use their anger and hatred against them as part of a multicultural society they are wrong. Living in the U.K. means understanding that idea and UK law protects everyone.

A teacher has been murdered in France so it is clearly international.

Boundoverbyacat · 13/10/2023 15:37

@Rolypops I am Jewish through parentage, although not religious. I am not laughing AT the situation, but I can still find levity in life. Try reading some of the literature around humour during times of crisis, including the holocaust it might enlighten you and relieve your po-face.

BethDuttonsTwin · 13/10/2023 21:01

Well sounds like only one teacher got murdered today, a couple of stabbings. Phew.
