Is this a normal amount of hair loss?!

Hi!
I am 24 and every day I lose about this much hair and it seems like a lot. This is just after a shower and washing my hair. It's been this way for a few weeks now. I do tend to lose more hair during a period of time once a year but this is extreme.
Could this be a sign of something or is this normal?
Sorry, just feel like it's a lot.

Have you had covid recently? I lost so much hair after covid 😢 else could be a deficiency?

And then this much more after brushing!

@disappointed101
I haven't had Covid as far as I'm aware ☹️
I wonder if I may need a doctors trip booked

Do you eat enough protein?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/10/2023 21:26

Try a shampoo with rosemary in it. I use L'Occitane strength & volume. The loss was minimised in 2 weeks. I noticed regrowth approx 8 weeks later.

10 months on my hair is back looking thick & healthy.

Low iron? Get tested. Take ferrous sulphate if levels below 50

abbs1 · 11/10/2023 21:33

Definitely get your iron levels checked. I just had a heavy period for 3 weeks and my hair is falling out a lot. I'm booking in to see the GP as I have a history of anaemia etc that can cause it to get my blood levels checked to see if I need to go back on iron tablets again.

ahhmyhair · 11/10/2023 21:38

I had a blood test back in August and my iron levels were 34 so not abnormal but on the low side.
I am also slightly high in creatinine.
The reason I had my blood test was due to dizziness and nearly fainting so I wonder if that has something to do with it.
The doctors put it down to anxiety.

Mine is a lot, lot worse than that. It’s down to low oestrogen.

iPreferBooks · 11/10/2023 21:49

Have you had your thyroid levels tested?

JamSandle · 11/10/2023 21:54

Doesn't look bad to me. Apparently we lose 100 hairs a day.

bettynutkins · 11/10/2023 21:55

No advice but I've always been like that. It's a running joke in our house.

Primproperpenny · 11/10/2023 22:10

If you’ve got long hair, it’ll look like loads but don’t we lose 100+ hairs a day anyway? My mum sheds loads and so do I and we’re not bald yet - might just be one of those things?

GoodVibesHere · 11/10/2023 22:11

I lose way way more than that, I assume it's normal as I still have plenty of hair left.

BowiesJumper · 11/10/2023 22:15

This time last year my hair fell out practically in clumps. Mine was low iron, but I took a load of vitamins to improve things and it started growing back in the main.

I'd ask for a repeat blood test I was having one every 3 months or so to see if my levels were coming up. I felt so weak and dizzy/lightheaded. And also ask for your thyroid to be checked.

I hope you get some help.
