My Year of Change

It's my 39th birthday tomorrow and I look and feel like a bag of shite! I have 2 pre-school children and zero time or energy.

I've lost my way a bit since having my eldest 3 years ago and I want to use the last year of my 30's to improve my health (currently no ailments and want to keep it that way), increase my fitness levels and ultimately look and feel better.

We have a special holiday planned for my 40th and I want to celebrate the milestone not feeling self conscious and knackered!

My plans are to -

Lose weight (2 stone)
Get fit
Spend more time on personal care/grooming (my hair is always tied back and I have no skincare routine)
I've always wanted to learn Spanish and would love to make this the year but not sure how much time I can dedicate to it at the moment. Maybe better to wait until the DC are both at nursery?! Or is that just me making excuses and being lazy?

Can anyone recommend anything else I can do this year that'll set me up for a happy and healthy 4th decade?

Walk more (aim for 10k steps a day)
Download Duolingo! It’s good fun

Happy birthday for tomorrow! Have a lovely day

Happy birthday for tomorrow! It's mine too (48 tomorrow), and my son's! It's just the 2 of us so feels quite special, though of course a 1 in 365 chance!

I have to say I feel pretty good as I get into the last 2 years of my 40s... my big thing is movement and feeling strong - I walk 10k steps+ every day with the school run and dog walking, and it's good for my head as well as my fitness. I also try and do classes 5/6 days a week. Sometimes yoga at home in the kitchen, sometimes I get to reformer or barre. I'm a lone parent but I have my own business and I prioritise moving. I also know I feel best when I eat well - lots of fresh fruit and veg and not too many UPFs. Oh and skipping breakfast and stopping eating at 7 most days transformed my energy levels a few years ago. I also try and make time for fun - get out dancing etc. I've had a tough 8 years for various reasons, but as I say, I'm in a good headspace at the moment, and keen to build on that.

I probably felt similar to you at that age... good luck making some positive changes, and hope you have a lovely day tomorrow!

I should add that I felt similar as DS was 2 - it's hard when they are tiny. He's 11 now, so that could be a big part of feeling loads better!

Ah, Happy Birthday to you too for tomorrow (and your son). It's also my brother's birthday tomorrow, we're 4 years apart.

Thanks for the tips!
