A thread about a supermarket thread …

So food shopping … which supermarket tills have the longest and shortest wait times.

Longest till waiting times in my area - Aldi and a high street coop. Not the shop workers fault of course, they are hardworking and personable.

Shortest wait time - Tescos

M’y Tesco has just ripped out virtually all the womanned checkouts and replaced them with self service ones, which has resulted in enormous queues at the few remaining serviced ones.

we have more or less left them to it , we go to Aldi and Waitrose which are nearer . Although Aldi is trying to inflict self checkout, it’s not as bad, and we buy less and more frequently.

I think so far Tesco have lost about £500, but it will continue to rise. We will go occasionally when we need to fill the car, and do a click and collect for most of the Tesco only products like Polish Peppers in jars.

Depends on the time of day. I've just been into my local Waitrose and all the self-serve tills were empty so I didn't have to wait at all. I didn't notice if there was a queue on the (wo)manned till(s).

Other times there will be queues to the back of the shop.

My local Lidl has self-serve which is great as I only go in there to buy coffee.

Sainsburys is usually quickest, then Asda, then Tesco. Lidl varies and I don't use Aldi or Morrisons.

ETA we don't have a Waitrose, not posh enough!

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/10/2023 18:23

Aldi is fastest by far.
Waitrose is slowest.
Usually use SmartShop at Sainsbury’s.
Don’t use Tesco, Asda, Morrisons or Lidl.

Lidl here have long queues.
Morrisons short.
Tesco hit and miss
Don't really shop anywhere else

Torganer · 10/10/2023 19:05

Waitrose and Aldi fastest. Lidl pretty slow, same as Tesco. Sainsburys is the slowest, it’s a massive store, and they have about 2 checkouts open out of about 20!!

CyclingForSanity · 10/10/2023 19:53

Lidl really long queues at checkouts with humanoids, the self service ones are all card only that's why.
Morrisons hit and miss but not too bad
Tesco usually no waiting unless after 5

At Tesco and Waitrose I only use the self service (usually scan as I go at Tesco) and never have to queue for a till. At Lidl I use self service if I've only got a basket or staffed if I have a trolley, I do usually have to queue for the staffed ones, sometimes for quite a while. Much prefer self scan/self checkout, so much quicker.
