How to gete from Newcastle airport to North Tyneside general hospital?

Anyone local who could help me out? Google maps is saying it's a 30 min car journey from the airport but Rome2Rio app (which I've used lots in the past and it's never been wrong) is saying it's 18 minutes.

DH has to take his father to a very important appointment but as we live in Ireland he has to fly in, landing at 7:50 and attend the appointment at 9am. Is it doable and will there be taxis outside or should he book in advance?

There is a big taxi rank outside so I'd imagine there would be taxis there most of the day. Whenever I've used that airport, we've not had a problem getting a taxi.

I think at that time in the morning he would be cutting it fine - certainly would take at least 30 mins in the car BUT you have to navigate both A1 and A19 which are busiest routes and so unpredictable for traffic.

he could get the metro (to cullercoats or tynemouth) but would have to get a taxi or Uber at the other end.

there will be airport taxis and he could definitely book something to take him from airport to the hospital in advance. Hope he makes it in time!

Ah crap the hospital have been really useless at factoring in that he has to get a flight over and won't budge on the 9am appointment time. Hopefully there's no delays with the flight or they're buggered.

Thanks for the help.

You have to order an airport taxi in the airport building and then give you a number. Will be £30-40 and you pau at the desk, but probably the only way if you are tight for time.
Could take anything from 40 mins, but it might be an hour plus depending on the day.
I work at North Tyneside General, and it's a total ballache to get to on public transport.
Is his Dad coming with him, or does he need to factor in picking him up some where.

West Monkseaton is the nearest metro but would Rake much longer than an hour as you have to change at South Gosforth and then get a taxi from there to the hospital (its about 30min walk if you're fitish)

I think the biggest risk is the flight being delayed or cancelled or it just taking longer to get out of the airport than you think (waiting to be let off the plane, walking through the airport, finding the taxi rank).

Will FIL be ready when DH arrives (I'm thinking that if DH is going over to take him to the hospital, he might need help getting ready and into a taxi?)?

Then there's rush hour traffic and how far you are from the taxi drop off to the appointment at the other end - it can be a long walk in a large hospital.

Is there any chance of him flying over the day before?

Hi dad will be with him (both travelling to see the specialist team there) but isn't mobile enough to get the tube etc so would need to be a taxi.

When DH first googled this to see if it was doable he saw that the journey would only take 18 mins so I'm not sure what mistake he made but flights are booked and they're travelling tomorrow so now it's a panic realising he's messed it up and they might not make it in time.
