EBay missing item

Hi,

Not sure where to post.

Just sold my bedroom set on eBay for well below whats it's worth, but needed space.

The person collected, but has now come back saying the slat ends are missing (I put them in a bag in the chest of drawers) I could kick my self, I showed him where the screws/ bolts were but not the slat ends, there are like over 60 of them so you can't miss them.

He says he can't find them. I am 100% they were in there and I've also had a look around and nothing.

I don't really want to pay £40+

I know eBay favour the buyer

Any words of wisdom?

You did cash on collection right?

No they paid via eBay

Then yes this might be your problem. You have no proof the item has been posted so they can just claim it wasn't received. If it's a big item and being collected you need to insist on cash on collection.

I asked for cash, he said he missed that and paid via eBay

For collection only items, ebay now issue a collection code for the buyer to give to the seller which eradicates this loophole.

However it does not solve your problem.

So you've told him they're in the drawer, and he says they aren't?

I'd have another search of the house just in case and then probably accept he'll be getting some or all of the money back, depending on whether a compromise can be reached re: the cost of replacing the ends and a partial refund for them.

They were defo in the drawer, but double checked anyway. You can hardly miss 60+ plastic slat ends.

He collected after 9pm in the dark, in a rented van. He'd been moving all week and said the house is full of his stuff.

These ends could be £40-70 depending. I could probably hire a van for a couple of hours and give a full refund and get the furniture back 🤪
