Any recommendations? Have seen Cabaret and Operation Mincemeat. Wondering about The Ocean at the End of the Lane (or is that for kids?) or the Enfield Haunting.

Sunset Boulevard was fab! On the strand.

Macbeth sold out in 16 minutes at the beginning of the year! I was devastated 😭

I’m on friends of Donmar membership list, very fortuitously. Go there a lot

Oh god I saw lili Allen pillowman she was shite, from the once a tree school of acting
Her performance was flat, lacked range, monotone delivery, self congratulatory smirk when swearing (lots of profanities) it’s supposed to be a dystopian police state warning from the future. Lily et al delivered it as a cardboard monologue

The audience were appallingly behaved and whooped and clapped a lacklustre cast. Like drunk hens at magic mike
Gave a standing ovation, when it was not merited

I've seen Enfield Haunting now. It was pretty good. David Thewlis and the older daughter are very good. I think Catherine Tate is a bit miscast, she has quite a droll style of delivery, whatever she does, so it's unclear sometimes if the line is supposed to be serious or get laughs.

It was creepier than I was expecting, I think they have rewritten parts of it and amped up the tension, as it wasn't what I was expecting from the early reviews. There were a couple of things I wasn't keen on, but that's because it diverted so much from the true story, which I know well. If you don't know much about it, it won't bother you.

Tip though - don't sit in the back 3 or so rows of the stalls, the set is on 2 levels and you can't see the top level well at all because of overhang from the Circle above.

i loved little big things. their appearance at the royal variety show didn't do it any justice at all.

2.22 i thought was a load of crap - the acting.
les mis i still love even after 93849 years
private lives - but i think that might have finished?
i didn't rate book of mormon at all.
time travellers wife i loved

Thanks @Brird for the update. I booked tickets and went to see Enfield Haunting today following on from your review. A few jumps and scares. I agree Catherine Tate's delivery was lacking subtlety in parts.

I did feel a little cheated by the 75 min run time. Overall, I enjoyed it. A fast paced story that held my attention.

Thanks again

anything else you’d recommend?

Guys and Dolls at the Bridge is an absolute joy! Not theatre but I also adored Matthew Bourne's Edward Scissorhands at Sadler's Wells.

My Dd really enjoyed Two Stranger, its on my bucket list along with Operation Mincemeat

xyz111 · 17/01/2024 18:46

@spearthatbroc I would book tickets and then binge watch the other 3 seasons. If you go see it without watching the others, they'll be so much detail that will just go over your head as you won't see the relevance of them.
