Any recommendations? Have seen Cabaret and Operation Mincemeat. Wondering about The Ocean at the End of the Lane (or is that for kids?) or the Enfield Haunting.

The Motive and the Cue is the best thing I have seen, maybe ever. Hamilton is excellent. I always enjoy Phantom.

Would love to see The Motive and the Cue but not sure my sis would like it.

Oh following. There's nothing that's really leaping out to me this autumn, I'm not a fan of musicals. Has anyone seen the Kirstin Scott Thomas one Lyonnaise?

Chchchanging · 08/10/2023 22:45

Went to see Moulin Rouge recently and it was absolutely amazing. The male lead was a truly fantastic singer. and the set is just breathtaking.

If you haven't seen it I would really recommend Operation Mincemeat - so funny and clever.

Or Cabaret - absolutely stunning.

@Oneeva might book witness for prosecution for my Dd. Where did you sit, the prices are quite varied. Thanks

All the seats for Witness are good really. It's a brilliant setting for a courtroom drama.

Ocean was excellent when we saw it in Liverpool. Very eerie. Clever staging and transitions. Good effects. A particularly interesting sequence of doors and characters entering and leaving the stage in unexpected ways.

DD and I very much enjoyed it, but we enjoy weird stories.

It was a little 'Stranger Things' in the vibe it had.

SheilaFentiman · 08/10/2023 23:08

Hamilton

Hamnet was good, the run has only just started

I want to see The Ocean.. too, the book is about the protagonist’s childhood but I don’t think it’s for children per se

Shopaholic100 · 08/10/2023 23:18

Do not watch Woman in black, it was an expensive sleep, we were so bored. Lion king is my favourite.

The first time my seat was slightly restricted, but I didn’t feel that affected my enjoyment.

The second time I saw it I was fortunate enough to get one of the seats in the ‘jury’. I definitely preferred the experience, but I’d be happy enough with any seat, as I think they all have good view, pretty much.

I hope you do go. I really did enjoy it.

I've sat in the central gallery seats which I think are £50 and the view was great. Just heed the warnings of alot of stairs.

The Motive and the Cue
Dear England
There's that Twiggy thing on

Lordofmyflies · 09/10/2023 17:52

Cabaret is excellent isn't it?!
Also recommend Dr Semmelweis.
Vanya with Andrew Scott in it, is getting great reviews too.

Millybob · 09/10/2023 17:59

Guys and Dolls and Iolanthe - both brilliant.
I was disappointed with The Motive and the Cue, but had dreadful seats.

Lentilweaver · 09/10/2023 18:04

Loved Guys and Dolls and Semmelweiss. The second may not be to everyone's taste; quite harrowing and over the top.
Quite liked Dear England for the teen boys.

KnottyKnitting · 09/10/2023 18:20

The ocean at the end of the lane is brilliant! No I wouldn't say it was for kids. Such a brilliant production!

Oh no - I'd just put the Motive and the Cue at the top of my wish list. What didn't you like about it - apart from the seats? I notice the Guardian and Time Out only gave it 3 stars, but the Evening Standard gave it 4. Great subject matter and stellar cast so I was hoping for something really good!

Good shout booking Ocean. It's really good. The setting is really interesting and I loved the story.

Guys and dolls immersive... Go go go

Crazy for you...ditto

Hamilton... Would watch every week if I could

Trying to get to Dear England, but not hopeful I can make it work.

Placemarking as I'm interested for November.
I was considering Hamnet.

Blueuggboots · 09/10/2023 18:56

We saw Stephen sondheim's old friends. Very good.

BlueRabbitWasNaughty · 09/10/2023 19:03

Has anyone seen or heard anything about Unbelievable?
it's by Derren Brown (although he's not in it) and I thought it might be a good one to interest two late teens.

We saw Witness of the Persecution and were blown away. The quality of the cast and the gorgeousness of the venue (County Hall) are breathtaking.

We had, not the very cheapest seats but the ones up from that and had a great view. I'm not sure there's a bad seat anywhere although apparently some of the cheapest seats have partially restricted views

It really is a fabulous play - and you'll love where it's staged

Simon Lipkin is in it and he's fabulous.
He has some tricks on his insta.
