Any recommendations? Have seen Cabaret and Operation Mincemeat. Wondering about The Ocean at the End of the Lane (or is that for kids?) or the Enfield Haunting.

OP posts:

Ocean at the End of the Lane is incredible - definitely not for kids. It's rated 12+ but it's pretty intense IMO. We saw it last weekend when it was at the Lowry.

Sunset Bovlevard is fantastic. Catch it before it goes. Fab cast, really different

Hamilton ghastly and over rated
Saw MacBeth at Donmar outstanding with immersive audio. If you can get tickets do go

Guys & Dolls at the Bridge . Delightful, sweeps you along.

bruffin · 24/12/2023 08:22

The Little Big Things is lovely and uplifting.

Snowflakecookie1989 · 24/12/2023 09:51

Hearing amazing things about "Stranger things, the first shadow" in London. Booked to see it in march.

LollipopViolet · 24/12/2023 10:47

How is Guys and Dolls in terms of sensory stuff (sudden, loud noises in particular)?

I've just watched the trailer and I'm REALLY tempted but I have noise sensitivity and that can rule out a lot of shows.

Zone2NorthLondon · 24/12/2023 11:00

Guys and dolls nowt sudden in terms noise, all songs that are anticipated & signalled
Bright lights, loudish you'll be asked to move as the shift sets about
Really close to cast it’s enchanting

LollipopViolet · 24/12/2023 11:25

Ah that's really helpful, thank you! The friend I was thinking of going with has mobility issues so think we'll need seated tickets, I'm visually impaired as well so probably better for me too.

I shall have to ask her if she fancies it after Christmas.

If you dont want to be in immersive crowd there are seats around. I had a balcony seat which was great or the stalls seat but are quite expensive.

Macbeth sold out in 16 minutes at the beginning of the year! I was devastated 😭

Just a heads up that Dear England is being screened in some local cinemas in January. I’ve always been been a bit sceptical about filmed performances but recently saw one for the first time (Skylight with Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan) and really enjoyed it.

Went to see Stranger Things First Shadow, oh my god it was amazing!!!!!!!!

Brird · 24/12/2023 14:06

I'm going to see The Enfield Haunting this week. Wish me well, I've never read such bad reviews.

Be interested to hear your opinion as we were thinking of going to see it. I don't always trust reviews!

Brird · 24/12/2023 14:12

I'll update later in the week! It's incredibly short now, 75 minutes, so at least if terrible won't drag on forever.

Westfacing · 24/12/2023 14:12

Dear England and Guys & Dolls are great.

And ABBA Voyage!

Jessforless · 24/12/2023 14:14

I saw stranger things opening night and we all thought it was rubbish, but maybe teething problems as it seems to be getting rave reviews now. Was about 4 hours long!

Loved Life Of Pi but think it’s gone now…

louderthan · 24/12/2023 17:34

I saw Ghosts (Sam Wanamaker playhouse at the Globe) on Thursday. Very good but utterly bleak.

louderthan · 24/12/2023 17:36

Just booked to see Cabaret in March, had vouchers from COVID cancellations that needed to be used by the end of the year.

I've always found filmed performances to be great, saw The Crucible via NT Live in the spring and it was amazing.

I really don't think i could see that. I went to school in the next road when that was happening, although really dont remember it at the time.
