Audible - confused by credits

Hi
sorry to be dense but I don't get how Audible works

I'm starting a month's free trial....I thought that meant I could listen to anything in the Plus catalogue, but it marks most things with credits.

How do I get the most out of it? Are people paying £7.99 a month to stream only? I get that, that's fine but how do credits fit into that?

Thanks for any help!

Each credit enables you to buy an audio book which you keep even when you’ve cancelled the Audible subscription. I used to look for the most expensive audio books I wanted to listen to and use my credit on those.

Covetthee · 07/10/2023 19:08

You get one credit a month on the subscription, each title is one credit.

but you can buy additional credits if you want.

I think you can do 2-3 returns a year as well and they will refund a credit.

As much as i enjoy audio books, i dont pay full price for audible. I only take their offers when they email me, as I think one credit is a bit stingy for their price.

there are a lot of other sources for audio books as well so check them out.

So the 7.99 is for streaming....or just one credit?

£7.99 is one credit to listen to one book. Either by streaming or downloading it. You can listen to the sample for free first, without using your credit .

Once you have used your credit you can use money to buy more books.

Audiobooks are expensive, but they cost a lot to make.

piintheski · 07/10/2023 19:12

7.99 is for one credit to buy one book, but you also get to listen to anything in their "included" section for free, and there is a lot there

Thanks everyone
it keeps being promoted to me and I thought it might be good for history, especially while doing chores etc but it might not be worth it for me as I already have Spotify.

thank you.

Cash in on things like the full Sherlock Holmes and Jeeves and Wooster read by Stephen Fry. Hours and hours of top notch entertainment

helpfulperson · 07/10/2023 19:25

you can also buy credits in bulk. I pay £60 for 12 credits annually and I think 24 credits is only around £`120

Good tips, thanks
I'm going to make the most of the free month and see how I feel.

Do you belong to your local library service? Some have a good range of audiobooks alongside ebooks and its a lot cheaper than Audible (which is definitely one of the more expensive options).

If there is a particular audiobook you want from Amazon its worth checking the price of the ebook bundles - they sometimes bundle an ebook/audiobook together for significantly less than the price of the audiobook.

Blingstar · 08/10/2023 10:54

@EmmaEmerald I've just noticed on Spotify that I'm getting 15 hours audiobook a month with my subscription.

EmmaEmerald · 12/10/2023 16:13

Thanks for the tips everyone

I just get whatever books were already on Spotify but I will look into that

now I've got 1 free credit on Audible but it's offering me a bunch of 2 for 1 but it's not clear how to get the 2, unless you have hit the button to go ahead and hope for the best!

so far I haven't used it for fiction, listening to Derren Brown at the mo.
