Couple of nights away in half term. But where?

DP and I fancy three nights way in half term. Just in the UK and preferably within 2 hours of Birmingham. We did consider Birmingham itself as we've moved near there and haven't explored the city yet, but consider other options. Open to nice city ideas or gorgeous countryside as well.
Anyone been anywhere lovely lately?
TIA

Liverpool - loads to do. Lovely friendly city. Alternatively, York.

The borders: Hereford, Ludlow, Ledbury.

Liverpool has a lovely free public light trail across the city over some of half term so timing would be good for that. www.visitliverpool.com/riveroflight/

Birmingham really isn’t at its best right now and I wouldn’t recommend it for a break unless you were coming to a specific event.

Manchester
Liverpool
Bristol

Personally, I’d look for a gig, exhibition or a theatre show in one of them and then take it from there.

Thanks, some nice ideas for me to explore here. Ludlow might be a nice shot actually, but I think dp might prefer Liverpool...

We went to the Wye Valley for a short break towards the end of the summer holidays. It’s a beautiful area with lots to do/places to explore.
