What curry do you get from the Indian takeaway?

Tonight I'm having an Indian, I get the same things on rotation... Biryani, Jalfrezi, Dhansak.

I want to try something new but I don't know what to try - tell me about your favourite and sell it to me!

Not many places sell it but railway curry is lovely, a dark thick sauce around the same spice level as a jalfrezi its generally quite smooth but very tasty. Otherwise I tend to pick a chefs special usually something onion and pepper heavy

I'm a Shashlick gal too- I only really have a curry at my mums, so I'll get that and pinch some of her Madras sauce 🤣

Also love me some Sag Bhaji 🤤

Korma. It's the only one I can eat!

Have you tried pasanda? It's as mild as korma but makes a nice change.

I tend to go with lamb dhansak. I also like pasanda, dupiaza and tarka daal.

ChaToilLeam · 06/10/2023 18:40

I love korma and passanda but lately have been more into jalfrezi. 😋 Chicken or lamb. And a side of bindhi masala, I adore okra.

We live in Germany so the curries tend to be more mildly spiced for the local palate (wusses) but we went out with my Indian friend once and he insisted they spice everything like they would in India. It was delicious! He needs to come back and visit so he can make Chicken 65 for me.

sanityisamyth · 06/10/2023 18:41

@BlowDryRat No as some of them have tomato in and I'm highly allergic.

CurlewKate · 06/10/2023 18:42

I always have a kurma because I can't make a nice one however hard I try. With a Peshawari naan. DP always gets something spicy with chapattis and alloo sag. I have a spoonful of his spicy one to pep up my kurma a bit. Damn. I want takeaway now and dp won't be home with the car in time.

ohsuzannah · 06/10/2023 18:43

Used to be biriani with a Peshawari naan ... until I got food poisoning 😂
Never touched it since, sadly

lissie123 · 06/10/2023 18:45

Prawn tandoori paratha and chickpea curry

V3rasDiL · 06/10/2023 18:47

Chicken bhuna. Keema rice (contains mince meat). Garlic naan. All the accompaniments and Indian salads.

Chicken butter curry. Our curry place do a yorkshire cheese naan, pilau rice.
excellent.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/10/2023 18:52

I'm obsessed with saag, I bloody live spinach. Keen on daal (dahl?) too.

Fizbosshoes · 06/10/2023 18:59

Slow cooked Sri Lankan lamb is my absolute favourite. You're making me want an Indian takeaway now and we only have 2 (maybe 3) takeaways a year!!

RaeHitsEbSire · 06/10/2023 19:02

Prawn vindaloo with two chapatis.

Mrsfussypants1 · 06/10/2023 19:09

Malayan chicken with coconut rice and Peshwiri nan bread. Its like main course and desert in one..

Burgerqueenbee · 06/10/2023 19:11

I love a Chasni but it's not sold many places. I always order chana masala and tarka daal as sides, and have a cheese naan no rice.

Q2C4 · 06/10/2023 19:14

Bhuna or dopiaza, if I can resist a chicken tikka masala... this thread is making me hungry!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 06/10/2023 19:16

My typical order is a veggie korma, chicken bhuna, keema naan, plain rice and salad.
I also love a lamb biryani.

Libertass · 06/10/2023 19:24

Pani puri, chilli paneer & a masala dosa for me. We are a bit spoiled by the choice of regional Indian food available in Leicester.

therealcookiemonster · 06/10/2023 19:29

I avoid Indian takeaways like the plague except a very very select few. their cooking is to Indian food what liz truss was to the British economy.

but if you really want to then I reccommend

  1. anything 'desi' style or 'dhaba' style
  2. things like meat cooked on the bone
  3. call them and ask them about their 'staff curry' - they will usually cook something for their staff which is authentic.
roses2 · 06/10/2023 19:29

Lamb nihari with a paratha.

loudbatperson · 06/10/2023 19:31

We tend to get a mixture of biryani, jalfrazi, buns, dopazia, rogan josh, saag aloo, Bombay potato, Dahl, veg curry. With rices and breads,

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 06/10/2023 19:41

Chicken Korma or Chicken Korai. Always with onion rice and onion nan bread.

SquigglePigs · 06/10/2023 19:51

We rotate and share a couple of things like bhuna, dupiaza, balti, jeera, biryani and saag paneer. We also often get chicken tikka or shashlik or a mixed grill, and onion bhajis. If we order from the Nepalese rather than Indian then Gorkhali is a firm favourite.
