What curry do you get from the Indian takeaway?

Tonight I'm having an Indian, I get the same things on rotation... Biryani, Jalfrezi, Dhansak.

I want to try something new but I don't know what to try - tell me about your favourite and sell it to me!

It's more about the place than the dish, IMHO. Look for somewhere with somewhat authentic stuff including lots of veg and fish dishes as well as the usual 7 curry sauces with your choice of meat chunks.

Many places do menu deals, this can be a good way to try new things. Or order 2-3 veg sides instead of a main. I like okra (bindi), aubergine (brinjal) and anything with paneer in.

Most Indian restaurants are actually run by people from Bangladesh, they have lots of fish there so fish dishes can be good!

To test a new Indian Restaurant I always get a chicken tikka massala, the spiciest thing on the menu and a baigran bharta (the aubergine curry).

Lamb sag balti. But am in Birmingham and never sure how widespread baltis actually are. I like a tarka daal alongside.

Very far from a good Indian restaurant but I miss a Rogan Josh

WereYouListeningToTheDudesStory · 06/10/2023 16:40

I love a karahi. Nice amount of spice and super flavoursome.

I love a bit of hariyali chicken too if I can get it.

Always get a peshwari naan because I love the sweetness with a hot curry.

Coconut rice is lovely too.

WereYouListeningToTheDudesStory · 06/10/2023 16:41

Ooh and mutter paneer can get in my belly too ❤️

hennaoj · 06/10/2023 16:41

Lamb Passanda or Lamb Saag. Onion Bahji are a must too if gluten free.

Palak paneer every time. And I'm not a vegetarian. Delicious!

PTSDBarbiegirl · 06/10/2023 16:43

Lamb Pardesi is lush, spinachy not too hot.
King Prawn Korma an old favourite.
Chicken Shashlik is lovely.
Tandoori chicken and mushroom pilaf.

blahblahx · 06/10/2023 16:51

Vegetable vindaloo

Decafflatteplease · 06/10/2023 16:55

I like a lamb biryani, DH likes chicken korma. Then we share saag paneer, peshwari naan and an aubergine dish I can't remember the name but it's basically fried aubergine.

It's so expensive though we probably only have it once a year!

WinterCarlisle · 06/10/2023 16:58

Vegetable dansak
coconut rice
Tandoori king prawns
Paneer tikka masala
Chilli naan

(not all to myself honest)

That's a little out of budget for tonight! I do love authentic Indian foods - I enjoyed thali after thali when I visited.

We have a good South Indian restaurant near us.. I've not really tried much South Indian food. The Ceylon is sounding interesting too. With a side of aubergine curry 🤔 damn I want a buffet at this point!

Haven't had this for years, totally forgot about it, it's amazing! This order is growing 😅

Damn, this thread desperately make me want a curry tonight!! I’ve already made chicken fajitas but now I’m considering saving them for tomorrow night instead…

ErinAndTonic · 06/10/2023 17:03

Currently I have:

Chicken pathia or Ceylon depending on which restaurant we pick

With - coconut rice, an aubergine side.. and maybe the chicken 65 starter I've also found. Or palak paneer. Send help! 🤰🏼

I adore a thali!!

I have a strong suspicion I'm going to end up ordering a takeaway tonight...

PeggyPiglet · 06/10/2023 17:05

Chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan and 9 poppadoms.

ManchesterLu · 06/10/2023 17:05

I'm that person who has a korma every time.

I don't enjoy spicy food, but I do enjoy all the extras that come with a curry - poppadoms, naans, bahjis etc. That's where my enjoyment comes from!

ThisNameHasChanged · 06/10/2023 17:06

South Indian garlic chilli chicken, everytime. With mixed pakoras, mushroom chaat and a garlic naan

ErinAndTonic · 06/10/2023 17:06

I'll send my apologies now to anyone who has jumped on the curry wagon when they didn't plan to 😬 we deserve it though!

geminiflanagan · 06/10/2023 17:13

Dd has butter chicken
Dh has chicken jalfrezi
I tend to have chicken shashlick, and steal some of the spare butter chicken sauce.

We don't get bhajis, samosas etc as they used to be good but they are crap and you only get 2 tiny ones instead of 3 normal sized ones.

Always a saag paneer, poppadoms and a pilau rice between us.
