My dogs ate raw egg -what do I do?

I was making scrambled egg and someone knocked at the door
Came back in and my dog was on the bench licking the bowl of raw egg
He's had a few licks of it
Now obviously I'm panicking
What do I do?
Try and make him sick ?
Can this kill him ?

Dogs love raw eggs and we often give ours some as a treat. Not a problem at all

Snoopystick · 06/10/2023 12:50

Mine has a raw egg quite regularly as a treat

Sarvanga38 · 06/10/2023 12:50

I regularly feed mine raw eggs as a treat - no issue at all.

All good

Mine gets one on his dinner once a week!

Lightningrain · 06/10/2023 12:51

Raw eggs are great nutrition wise for dogs. Mine gets them regularly. No issue at all.

Floppyelf · 06/10/2023 12:51

As dogs are like foxes i think not. Its only alien chemicals such as cocoa( which were native to the amazon only) that could kill them. Call up your Vet and they can advise over the phone.

It’s fine for dogs to have raw egg. Mine has it as a treat sometimes.

meatbaseddessert · 06/10/2023 12:51

Huh? My dog literally had a whole raw egg white in her bowl to scoff not 10 minutes ago. Dogs love raw eggs and they are very good for them.

SnowSnow · 06/10/2023 12:52

We have chickens and our dog gets a raw egg on her meal once or twice a week as it’s meant to be good for them

Emanresu9 · 06/10/2023 12:52

huh? dogs love raw egg. Do you think they have a stove in the wild ;)

Eyesopenwideawake · 06/10/2023 12:52

Hope you gave him the shell as well - they love crunching them!!

Thewizardbinbag · 06/10/2023 12:53

What do you think dogs/wolves evolved to eat? Honestly, use some common sense.

johnworf · 06/10/2023 12:53

One of my dogs regularly goes in the hen house and helps herself! No harm has been done and actually, she looks really healthy 😃

QOD · 06/10/2023 12:53

are you in the UK? raw eggs are 99.9% fine as long as lion marked
Have you never eaten cake mix?
Dogs sniff bums & lick each others bits - he will be fine, maybe a bit farty

ringohding · 06/10/2023 12:53

I googled and it said don't give them raw eggs due to salmonella so that's what made me panic a bit

Dogs love raw eggs

One reason they should always be on a leash in areas with ground-nesting birds.

Silverdogblue · 06/10/2023 12:53

How odd. They’re not pregnant are they? Confused

Are you in the UK? Because this isn’t a realistic risk in the UK.

ilovemydogmore · 06/10/2023 12:54

Do you never eat raw cake batter? or a slightly soft omelette?

I eat raw eggs all the time, if you're in the EU or the UK then you're absolutely fine! Risk of salmonella is very low

Mudflaps · 06/10/2023 12:55

We fed raw eggs to our show dogs, it was great for their coats and they loved it.

Are you in the U.K.? You may have read advice that pertains in countries which don't have our food standards

www.egginfo.co.uk/eggs-safety/salmonella

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/10/2023 12:56

Your dog will be fine. Our pups used to have wheatabix and a raw egg for breakfast. As we have chickens, they frequently snaffle a raw egg. Full of protein.

PickAChew · 06/10/2023 12:56

Salmonella is more of a problem in eggs in countries where chickens are routinely intensively reared in far worse conditions than even the most basic of conditions in the uk.

That appears to be Australian advice.
