Dp just sent me a..

Takeaway. And it’s honestly just been such a significant moment. We don’t live together and he called me when I got in from work. I mentioned I’d forgotten to get the only meal I had out of the freezer (pay day is tomorrow) and he asked what I’d like and said he’d send me a takeaway.

During lockdown, I wasn’t eligible for furlough so very skint and my abusive exP once watched me boil 2 new potatoes as a meal while he cooked a full chilli con carne for himself.

Its a small insignificant moment to my DP but to me it’s just been a moment of someone showing me they care.

Anyone else have a moment like this with a relationship after an abusive one?

Yay DP! That’s very good of him

How lovely 🥰

determinedtomakethiswork · 05/10/2023 23:27

He sounds lovely. What did he send you?

Deathbyfluffy · 05/10/2023 23:31

Good on him!
I did something similar for my DW many years ago (before we were married) and she’s always remembered it too.

It’s the small things like this which show people you care

Kittensat36 · 05/10/2023 23:36

Aw, that's lovely. That's the biggest, greenest flag a-going. Esp after your ex (may his chilli burn him at both ends).

While not quite the same, I was having a frantic day at work and one of my colleagues said that he couldn't take over the task for me so could he get me a tea or something. It was a small thing, but it meant a great deal to me.

I know it’s a bit boring but I never actually get a good old fashioned cheese burger. So that’s what I asked for! They usually come as a meal too so was thinking what would be relatively cheap as I didn’t want to be CF about his good deed!

Well done on finding a keeper.

Mumski45 · 06/10/2023 00:36

My DH did this for me as a surprise. A long time ago now but he was working away abroad and I was at home looking after 2 toddlers. I nearly turned the delivery man away as I hadn't ordered anything and thought it was a mistake. I then realised it was too much of a coincidence that my favourite curry 'accidentaly' arrived at my door when I was having a tough evening.

Enjoy your cheeseburger.

FrogFairy · 06/10/2023 01:08

Love is not what you say, love is what you do.

There is affection in every crumb of that cheeseburger.

RamblinRosie · 06/10/2023 01:52

It’s the little things that really make a relationship. In a way big gestures are easy, flowers for Valentines etc.

Coffee in bed, then pops out for a paper when I’m feeling rough. Buying me crumpets for no reason. Them’s real caring.

bpirockin · 06/10/2023 02:34

Aww, that is a lovely thing to do. I'm glad you enjoyed and appreciated it, you clearly deserved it.

Aria999 · 06/10/2023 02:35

Aww 🥰

Tilllly · 06/10/2023 05:47

What a hero 🦸‍♂️ 😊

Quitelikeit · 06/10/2023 05:55

Such a kind thing to do compared to some of the tight greedy men I read about on here!

Can I ask though you are so strapped for cash that you literally had no food in aside from one frozen portion?

What about food banks or getting the too good to go app?

Ladyj84 · 06/10/2023 06:31

My DH has done this a few times he works long work shifts and I look after the 3 little ones. Last week a takeaway and a bottle of wine turned up not long after I got them to bed for the night it was awesome

NoTeaNoShade · 06/10/2023 06:42

That is lovely OP, I hope you enjoyed every mouthful ☺️

Bunnyhair · 06/10/2023 06:47

Aw, this was lovely to read. People being nice to each other. 🥹

SUCkythings · 06/10/2023 06:50

That’s lovely OP. Wishing you a long, happy relationship

Long story short I have health issues that doctors won’t take serious enough to look into so I work part time as that’s what I feel I’m physically capable of doing. I do okay enough. I don’t eat breakfast or lunch anyway as it makes me feel ill and I can afford an evening meal each day just unfortunately this one was in the freezer and I forgot to defrost and it was the last one before pay day.

Even though I live pay day to pay day, I can afford the cheaper food within that time so I don’t feel I need to use food banks. 😊
