Hi. I’ve just had my prescription review for dd and they said due to a shortage they are ceasing all prescribing until November at the earliest. Does anyone have more details?

Having a hell of a time getting hold of Elvanse at the moment but don't know any more than that - and neither do my pharmacy, as far as I can tell - they just give me a slip for what I owe and tell me to come back on a different day. I've had this last month's prescription in dribs and drabs and it's still not complete.

Our brand is Mylan (?). I’m new to all of this!

Found a couple of articles 6 days ago. Looks like there’s a worldwide shortage.

Is that for all ADHD medicines ?
DC is on a different one to those mentioned.

I ordered my sons aripiprazole yesterday, admittedly I haven't been to the chemist yet 😬

CountingDownTheHours · 05/10/2023 19:38

I am struggling to get Equasym for my son at the mo. I have some boxes of lower doses that the doc said we can double up on, but I didnt realise it was a worldwide shortage... :(

Collected DD'S medication last Friday with no issues Medikinet XL.
We have a back up supply cause we have had issues in the past.

Bruisername · 05/10/2023 19:43

So it is only one there is a shortage of but that has created a shortage in all the others so o we told they are stopping prescribing all. Let me find the article

This was posted on a group I am on. DS1's meds aren't on here, but he was moved to Xaggatin from Concerta because of the supply difficulties a while back.

I was told it’s a blanket no to any medication but on the ones not affected perhaps it is only new patients

Apologies, I don't think that worked!

PuzzledObserver · 05/10/2023 19:49

It’s not new - I’ve had multiple occasions over the past year when the pharmacy couldn’t get exactly what was prescribed so I had to go back to the GP to get the prescription changed. Then the following month they couldn’t get that one.

I’m completely fed up with it and after the latest episode of 3 different pharmacies not being able to fill my prescription I decided I’m not going to bother any more. The meds did help, but I survived 58 years without, so it’s back to being unreliable and disorganised for me. I really feel for people for whom meds are the difference between coping with life and not.

There seems to be shortages if everything at the moment it makes one wonder why? What are we not being told? I was in the pharmacy this evening and there were 3 people who were told they couldn't get hold of various medications and it's been the same last time I was in, I have not been able to get hold of my medication for months

CrystalDay · 05/10/2023 19:51

I've been off of concerta for two months as my GP refused to prescribe an alternative when there was supply issues.

This lead to them realizing I hadn't had a review for years so now I have to have a review before they will prescribe again.

I missed the review and am now so pissed off with myself and worrying that I'll have to wait even longer. I am barely functioning. Only got myself to blame for missing the review but I cried when I realized what I'd done.

Thegoodbadandugly · 05/10/2023 19:51

Different meds to your just to add.

WinterCarlisle · 05/10/2023 19:57

My DS is on methylphenidate. He previously always had the Concerta brand but now following a dose change has been dispensed Delmosart. I don’t think it’s as effective but he would not be able to cope without it so 🤷🏽‍♀️.

I really feel for those of you who are unable to get prescriptions. I know how hard it would be for my son 😔

Bruisername · 05/10/2023 20:00

This feels like the last straw for me tbh. I’d put all my hope into meds working for and now just feel so hopeless about it all.

I can see prescriptions have soared so I guess they just haven’t produced for the demand

DS1 is in S5 at school (Scotland). He has prelims in November and his highers in May. He simply would not be able to cope without his meds. Mornings and evenings can be difficult enough for both him and the rest of the family.

They have the same active ingredient so should have the same effect.

Has the dose been reduced? If so, then that’s probably the reason for being not so effective, not the brand change.

NigelFaragesTinyConscience · 05/10/2023 20:08

Psychiatrists need to advise of alternative and they are impossible to see. Lots of people I know are rationing their use. Madness all the shortages.

GruffalosGirl · 05/10/2023 21:06

I've been contacted by the GP to be told that NHS England have said that xaggatin will have supply disruptions that will resolve at various dates between October and December and I might want to speak to my consultant about what to do if I can't get it or to try various pharmacies. I'm only on this because I got switched last year due to supply issues with xenidate xl.

Anon1072 · 05/10/2023 21:39

My son is on Elvanse. Our usual pharmacist's were unable to fill his prescription as they had non in stock and could not order any in. By phoning round all pharmacies in the area I managed to get half of his prescription filled. The pharmacist did say they are expecting supplies to be in by mid November, if not I'm not sure what we will do.
