Where to go in the UK this half term? 2/3 hrs from Leicestershire

Need some suggestions where we can go for a little trip, 3 nights, that's around 2 to 3 hours from Leicestershire (Ashby de la Zouch to be precise).

We've got 4 kids ages 13, 11, 7 and just 4 weeks.

Normally we'd go abroad at half term but haven't got little one's passport sorted yet and not really in the mood for it this year.

We'd like a bit of countryside for walks and naturey bits, but also museums, historic sites and maybe a cafes etc.

Any suggestions for places that might tick all the boxes?

Thanks

Thank you, we do love York but went there last year at Easter. Hoping to go somewhere different

Are you on the Leicestershire half term week I.e earlier than everywhere else?

I'd suggest the New Forest and the Dorset coast. Lots to do around there for kids of all ages.

Probably at the very top of your travel time but how about Kent?
Loads of castles and English Heritage sites, Canterbury is lovely and you're near the coast for beach walks.

Brecon Beacons / South Wales for castles, coal mines and Cardiff? Loads to see.

Leeds/Wakefield area

Yorkshire Sculpture Park just south of Wakefield. Also National Mining Museum, Newmillerdam (big lake with wildlife, woods, cafe) nearby and Cannon Hall Farm.

Leeds has the Royal Armouries museum, Kirkstall Abbey, Temple Newsam, Lotherton Hall, Roundhay Park (all big parks a few miles outside the city with farms, parkland, cafes etc. Great shopping and street food in the Trinity Centre.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park wouldn't be too far out of your way on the way there or back, likewise Xscape, indoor snowdome.
