If you don't do beach holidays, what do you do?

I am wondering what other people do (or would like to do if they had the budget!). I am not keen on the beach but that has been our family holiday every year since I was a kid!

Now I don't have young kids at home I'd like to travel and see other places, with some relaxation time but not the beach.

And I know lots of people can't go on holiday - so I'd love to hear real life experiences + fantasy ideas, please 😊

Skiing in winter and short cruises/city breaks in summer.

Road trips (the US ones upthread really resonated, that's my kind of holiday)
Mountain hiking
Scandinavia - the whole vibe. Norway in particular
Binoculars go everywhere I go. I'm a real nature lover, and everywhere offers an opportunity to take that in. Yes, even NYC!

Ski in the winter (although not during COVID) and in the summer we head to France. Used to camp with the kids, now have a small caravan, so still stay on campsites but just dh and I. Sightseeing, walking, cycling, canoeing, museums, castles, cities/villages, markets, combined with an afternoon at the campsite pool or swimming in a river, or just sitting under a tree with a book and a glass of chilled wine. Bliss 😊

I didn't really have a beach holiday until I was in my 50s (& loved it Grin).

As a family our holidays were all very worthy and educational... exploring historic sites, camping in wild conditions, travelling through Europe, sailing ... that sort of thing. When I was married it was mainly camping ... some city breaks and road trips round USA (fab), plenty of ski trips, wine tours in France. Just back from a walking holiday in this country. Would love to be on a beach.

Another vote for city breaks and lots of culture. We stay in an airbnb, a mix of eating out and shopping in the local shops. Lots of museums, art galleries, historic sites. We ironically do far more beach days when we visit my family in Scotland than we've ever done abroad.
