The roar of "CHICKENS!" was often accompanied by a metre rule slamming down on the unfortunate miscreant's desk a few mm away from their hands. He never actually touched anyone to my knowledge but it's a miracle nobody had any fingers broken. He'd probably be sacked within a day now. We all learned to use the right units mind you. I bet none of us lost marks that way by the time we got to the exam!
