Could this be making my mums dog ill?

My mum has a 2 year old dog
She feeds him Harrington's dog food but also bits of her food
For example some steak pie and 2 chips
Leaves him a little bit of her cup of tea twice a day
A piece of ham (50p piece )
Anyway her dogs stomach sometimes squeaks and he will be off his food for a couple of hours then he will eat.
No diarrhoea or sickness except for a bit of bile.
Running and playing as normal
Then the next day he is fine again
Any opinions ?

Dogs can't drink tea due to its caffeine content. Caffeine is toxic to dogs and can cause many health issues - even decaffeinated tea contains small amounts of caffeine so it's still not recommended. When it comes to drinks for dogs, fresh water is always the best and safest option.

Apart from the caffeine in the tea if they eat quickly they swallow a lot of air which then makes its way down through the intestines.

That's the gurgling noises you hear.

I have three dogs and one in particular has this often. I spoke to the vet as I thought it meant a bad tummy but it really is just air.

With human food I would be worried about the salt content. If she had made the pie it would probably be ok, but if shop bought it may have a lot of salt in it. Ham is a complete no-no in our house due to the excessive salt.

Dogs should not have onions, peppers or tomatoes which may also have been in the pie.

I assume your Mum knows that chocolate is toxic to dogs? Also grapes, dry fruit as well.

A quick google brought up this:

but I know there are many other, more comprehensive, lists on the internet.

He doesn’t sound particularly ill?

Actually none of his diet sounds great. Harringtons is a very basic dog food. Probably’good enough’ but not very nutritious. Th human food isn’t (obviously) designed for dogs although my canine dustbin would have happily wolfed all that down and come back for more.

Try him on a food for sensitive stomachs and cut out the human food and see if he improves?
