I have an issue with Fatal Attraction (Film)

I rewatched this the other night.

There are so many things I could take issue with but the one I have a real problem with is the dog, Quincy!

Michael Douglas and his family live in an apartment building with the dog~and his wife and child are away for the weekend. He then takes Glenn Close out for the evening and stays in her apartment for the night

THE POOR DOG IS LEFT LOCKED IN AN APARTMENT ON HIS OWN

Dan strolls back the next morning to take him out but by then he should be greeted by lots of piss and shit anywhere

So forget that 'Dan' has an affair and is a terrible man, I take issue with his treatment of Quincy

Does anyone else have weird issues with films or tv shows that are completely irrelevant to the plot?

Balcony litter box.

I mean probably not but it might make you feel better about it

BarnacleBeasley · 04/10/2023 09:32

My dog would shit everywhere out of panic because he wouldn't want to be alone overnight, but his normal routine is last poo at 7ish, and last wee before bed but he often doesn't bother (esp if raining) so maybe if Quincy is a bit more chilled out about being alone, he doesn't need a wee or poo?

newnamethanks · 04/10/2023 09:35

Is she the boiled rabbit woman? If so, the dog should be the least of your concerns.

Mindymomo · 04/10/2023 09:39

My dog can go from 7 pm to next morning without needing a wee or 💩. What I hate is watching anything where people have babies/children, but they are hardly seen, it’s just not real life. I appreciate they cannot be in every scene, but could be shown on a mat, high chair or bouncer for babies and for older children sitting reading, homework, hobbie, tv or being on phone/tablet.

The Color Purple - the film not the book. The beautiful scene at the end where Celie is reunited with Nettie and her children.

Neither of her children speak English, but were brought up by English speaking missionaries in Africa. Presumably Nettie and the adoptive parents learned the local language in adulthood but I don't think they would never have spoken English at home or wanted the children to be bilingual. Particularly as they would have been learning a very different language in adulthood which is not easy so there's no way they would have exclusively spoken that language in the home plus missionaries in the 1930s would have been teaching English to the local communities anyway as part of their missionary work.

It just didn't make sense and was annoying. Particularly because it meant poor Celie was reunited with her children who she then would not be able to communicate with verbally without an interpreter and irrationally as it's fiction lol, that upsets me.

Also, Gremlins- don't feed after midnight but no rule at what time in the morning/day you can start feeding them.

It isn’t a film known for its pet care

Daffodilwoman · 04/10/2023 09:46

I hated the end of Fatal Attraction. He should have been punished would have made a much better ending.
I think the child should have died (they do in horror films) to make the point that look at what has happened due to you not being able to keep your dick in your pants. I hated how the unmarried woman was demonised.
I also disliked his wet the wife’s character was. I don’t know anyone alive who has been so wet after finding out her husband had been shagging around.
Totally the directors fault. I think he also directed Basic Instinct which also portrayed women as ‘whores and evil’ men ‘good’.

Haha very true! And yes, it's the boiled rabbit woman!

I totally agree with all your points. But I can't get passed the dog being left on his own for so long and was the thing I was most pissed about

@JellyGrownUps I actually haven't seen the Color Purple but this sounds like a bit plot hole for sure

And yes to Gremljns. When does it stop being 'passed midnight' and start being morning? That's dangerously vague!

In the new series version of this he comes home and the dog has destroyed the house. He has to get professional cleaners in.

Oh.my.god. There's a series version of this??? AND they've addressed my weird issue with the film??

Mind. Blown!

I'll have to look for it now, thanks!

Yep it's on Paramount plus only though

MillicentMaybe · 04/10/2023 10:39

One of my favourite films is Dances with Wolves. However I get irrationally annoyed at Stands with a Fist’s hair. She has been brought up by Indians from the age of three. She wouldn’t have a huge messy bush of uncombed hair would she?

BarnacleBeasley · 04/10/2023 11:11

This has reminded me of a bit in Truly Madly Deeply (a lovely film) that absolutely enrages me. In the film, Juliet Stevenson's husband, Alan Rickman, who was a professional cellist, has died. Then her little nephew takes up the cello and her sister tries to persuade her to give him AR's cello, because he's been borrowing one from school but now needs his own as he's getting more serious about it. This is utterly ridiculous for two main reasons: 1. it'll be a really really expensive cello, way more valuable than a child novice would need, but especially 2. the child is way too small for a full-size cello and probably needs a half (or at a push 3/4) size at his age. FFS.

The stuff about ghosts is totally plausible though.

FortunataTagnips · 04/10/2023 11:42

The cello thing always pissed me off. And the sister should back the fuck off! What a cheek.

You thought a child should die to punish a parent having an affair?

Wow...

BarnacleBeasley · 04/10/2023 12:43

@JellyGrownUps pretty sure she meant in a film, as part of the logic of the plot and genre, not in real life.....

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/10/2023 12:45

Petunia Dursley should be blonde.

rose69 · 04/10/2023 12:47

Pretty Woman, putting aside the main plot of the film which is awful in itself. But when Julia Roberts is a student she suddenly becomes long sighted and needs glasses for reading. Why do all beautiful women in films need to wear glasses to show intelligence.

BethDuttonsTwin · 04/10/2023 12:48

I don't think Dan's wife was wet at all. She threw him out and refused to speak to him. She only let him back after Alex had killed their child's pet and taken Ellen from school. I'd certainly be letting my husband back to physically protect me and my children if that had happened to me.

CakeInAJar · 04/10/2023 13:03

I mean a bunny gets actually boiled in a pan but yeah poor dog 😂😂😂

CakeInAJar · 04/10/2023 13:04

Speaking of Fatal Attraction - I first saw it when I was quite young. Did anyone else think the child was a boy called Alan Blush

Are you sure you’re talking about Pretty Woman?!

Surely "Erin Brockovich"?
