Child irritated skin

This is my sons skin, this started minor on Sunday and every day is doubling in size, I have received a cream and ointment from the pharmacy as well as an antihistamine but it's not containing it at all, it's now spread to his neck and appearing on his face.

I was initially thinking the usual cold weather dryness but it's never been like this - it's a bit early anyway.

Any suggestions on what this is? I don't think is a dry skin, Should I persevere with the chemist cream or involve the Dr now (if I ever get through)

I've not used any new washing powder etc, Childs farm shampoo and body wash as always.

It looks like scarlet fever?

I would go to the GP if cream isn't helping

Possibly, he doesn't have the tongue, temp or other symptoms but will watch out for those arriving.
