Gaming pc for Xmas

Hi my son wants a gaming pc for Xmas. I don't have Any idea what I'm buying . I know he does not want to built his own . My budget is upto 300 . May consider bit more if its going to make a big difference.

As I said I have no idea what I'm talking about so please don't get technical as I won't understand at all.

If anyone can help /have suggestions could you please send links ? As would be really helpful.

Ds saying to but on amazon but in not sure ?

I have no idea on a gaming PC but when I looked into it last year I was looking at about £2000 for a good one.Its cheaper to buy the parts individually and build your own.A friend of my partners is qualified in IT/computers and he built ours.Cost us around £700.They can be really expensive to buy.

How old is your son? Old enough that you could get him to research what he wants within your budget? The realisation that he would get more by building it himself might make him re-think.

I said in my op that we don't want a build your own type. He will say he knows what he's doing . When he does not. Then it will be a massive waste

you won't be able to get a good PC let alone a gaming PC for £300 ...

What games does he play? this might make a difference between if he needs a "Gaming PC" or a PC to play games on...

Realistically you won't get a gaming PC (of any quality) for less than £300, a decent graphics card alone costs more than this. For real gaming quality you're looking at at least £1k. To be honest £300 is a small budget for any kinda of PC/laptop nowadays (although I feel your pain because £300 feels like a huge amount of money) it just doesn't stretch far for laptops/PC.

What games does he play?

This was my issue last year.Without meaning to sound like an a*se,gaming PC's do cost some proper money.I had to say no to my son until we had ours built.

I can't see 300 quid getting anything decent though. Maybe he should save towards it.

Not sure you’d get one that runs many games for that. My Dc have been saving for a few years to get one forgoing their main present so they can have cash for saving towards gaming pcs.

They reckon they can build a decent one for £900. Whereas buying the same spec pre build would cost upwards of £2000. I don’t know if they are right but they usually are and have been researching this for years.

Yes but we still don't know what games... it's very important. There's a difference between being able to play Minecraft and being able to run Counterstrike at good speeds.

£300 is nowhere near enough. If you don't want to build your own then you'll need to spend at least 1500.

Really sorry OP but your budget is unrealistic. You need to be looking at at least £1k plus.

Could you get a second hand games console instead?

Even the 700 one you've linked to isn't great. Unfortunately with gaming pcs if you actually want them to work well you need to either build to save costs or spend upwards of £1500 on a decent one

Buying something that isn't really a gaming PC but is just fancied up to make it look like one is false economy. It won't work well and just cause frustration.

You're just not going to get a decent pc for £300

You also need to factor in that what you see is just the PC, the processor. You need to factor in the cost of then buying the monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. A gaming monitor needs a much higher spec than a normal PC monitor. These additional necessary things could easily be over £300 alone.
