I need freeview help please?

I just got out of a broadband/TV contract with Virgin

Ive taken just broadband with someone else as we mainly watch iplayer/itv/ch4/5 & occasionally Youtube

We dont have a smart TV but will buy one when this one breaks/dies/needs replacing

What is the most cost effective thing to buy to keep us going

I thought if we had a freeview box I;d need an aerial connection is that right? Is there anything else I can do

I’ve got freeview to that works sort of ok with indoor aerial

but we most often use Amazon fire stick , works off internet connection.
downloadapp onto it for bbc i player/ sounds, itvx, stv player( in our region) uktvplay, etc etc
we also have various subscription channels like Now,Disney, Discovery, Amazon

Meant to say the fire stick slots into hdmi so check you have free one on tv

think there Roku ones too but not sure what they support

i also have Netflix, Spotify, various ch4 basically anything that has an app

I was going to ask the same - also just cancelled Virgin and about to go with someone much cheaper for broadband. I will save so much each month 😮

Did you manage to cancel it took me nearly 8 hours of hold/online chat

My dd Had a Ruku box when she lived here so she could watch TV in her room it's a plug and go thing works off the Internet.

I used the WhatsApp messaging option and it took 3 days 🙄 I was stuck on a loop whereby the automated bot asked me for the same details multiple times. Then a human messaged back but it took me an hour to respond as I was at work and I ender up back in the queue again...

Now they're calling me daily trying to get me back. I've blocked their number!

I was in hold for nearly an hour, they worked out I was disabled and I was transferred for another depth and was on hold for 1.5 hr more....before being cut off

And I got into loops on the online chat too 🙄

& i spent 20 mins explaining I would not be paying £74 in November as I was ending my contract on 14th Oct

And i prob wouldn't be paying £49 in Oct for the same reason! And she couldn't work out what I would be paying....

It was my DD that first had fire stick. I thought it was just for streaming Amazon prime. So wrong.
It can download apps allowing you to watch tv via internet same as you could on laptop or phone.
it keeps stuff neatly in one place
Im looking at channels on mine now
I can stream live BBC 1, 2,3, 4 news and so on through bbc iplayer plus catch up
BBC sounds gives me the radio channels plus some podcasts
Channel 4 app gives live coverage plus other content
my5 similar
UKTV play gives access to Dave, Drama, W, Yesterday mostly as box sets , some good ones there
Pluto tv has a lot of content
cbs catch-up has things like updatedJudge Judy
itvx gives me some itv content but as I’m in Scotland I often need to use STV player

As we have subscriptions I’ve also loaded Disney+, Discovery +, Netflix, Now (gives you sky content) Amazon Prime video which also gives freevee

you can also add other apps for movies, Apple TV, paramount, plex some need subscriptions others are free.

Our indoor aerial works with our tv as it’s freeview ready but can be patchy if the tree outside is shoogling in the wind.

Oh @ratspeaker we couldn't watch something on itvx and had to watch it on Stv player was really odd we jstreamthrough sky . I'm a bit dim where apps are concerned I thought it was something I had or hadn't done!
