Saw this on Twitter.

What’s happened in Oxford?
Ontobetterthings · 02/10/2023 21:30

Peacemarking

AutumnFroglets · 02/10/2023 21:32

Wow, that's a really "good" image 😱

TVP said lightning hit some gas canisters, no one hurt.

Oxfrog · 02/10/2023 23:35

Can anyone knowledgeable give me some reassurance..? I live close by, 2-3 miles and heard the bang and went upstairs to make sure the roof hadn’t collapsed, saw the sky was red, and being an idiot thought ‘ooh what strange and interesting weather’ and went and wandered around outside for half an hour waiting to see if there was more of it. Something fell on my head, because I was puzzled as it felt like rain but then wasn’t wet when I touched it.

Then just now saw the news, including the advice to stay inside with windows closed. I am a bit of a hypochondriac anyway. I guess what’s done is done, but if anyone knows how likely it is that I’ve just exposed myself to massively toxic air for no reason I would like to know.

AutumnFroglets · 02/10/2023 23:48

@Oxfrog - disclaimer, I'm not knowledgeable. The explosion was from their biogas containers.
Biogas a renewable fuel that's produced when organic matter, such as food or animal waste, is broken down by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen. This process is called anaerobic digestion.

I'm guessing it's because its rotting waste and nobody likes to be covered in that, or breathe it in. My advice would be to have a hot shower and wash your hair.

66rabbits · 02/10/2023 23:50

Place marking. Family nearby. Where are you hearing the advice to stay indoors?

Oxfrog · 02/10/2023 23:50

@AutumnFroglets that is exactly what i’ve just done, shampooed thrice! I hope it’s only as disgusting as it sounds, what my anxiety is trying to latch onto is the idea that it would be full or carcinogens or something that could do longterm damage. But it didn’t smell where I was, and I assume most of the gas just burned straight up.

Oxfrog · 02/10/2023 23:51

@66rabbits it was the police statement I think, repeated in the Oxford Mail. I also wonder if it was just to keep people out of their way. I hope so.

Letrozolehope · 02/10/2023 23:52

I have to say if I heard a massive noise and looked out and saw that I’d think my childhood fears about nuclear war had been realised and would have shit myself 😂😂

I’m obviously a bit dopey today! I did think it was all very weird - the house shook, the lights all flicked off and some appliances made a weird thunk. And then the sky was very bright red… But I just thought I’d thought it was louder and weirder than it was because it made me jump, as soon as there was thunder a moment later I assumed just a slightly quirky storm!

Mountaineer0009 · 03/10/2023 05:22

i would presume theres more to it than just lightening, plus those tanks would presumably have the ability to resist lightening strikes.

TheOutlaws · 03/10/2023 05:46

I’m nearby. I heard/saw nothing!!
