Wedding makeup

Had my bridal makeup trial a few weeks ago and she did my eyes beautifully but my face was a bit orange and the blush/bronzer didn't appear very well blended, I was also covered in highlighter. I've seen plenty of photos of her brides and they all looked lovely which is why I chose her so was a little confused that my base was so heavy.

She explained to me that it shows up better on the photos and that when I wear my dress it will all blend but I can't help but worry that I might feel aware of it on my wedding day and be self conscious.

My mums told me to do my own base if that's what I'm more comfortable with - just wondering if any body else did their own makeup on their wedding day? Or should I just trust the process?

I did mine, I'm really particular about my make up and didn't want anyone else to do it. I did buy some super coverage foundation and maybe went a little heavier than I would, it looked good in the pictures.

I had 2 people doing my hair in contrast 😂 I can't do hair!

I did my own with my mums help a little but we didn't have a professional photographer (by choice) I f we had a professional photographer I would go with what they say

It's true that if you don't often wear lots of makeup, you can feel very over-made up, but it can end up looking lovely in photos. I had that experience for a photo shoot. I didn't feel good in person but photos, under spotlight looked great and natural.

However, I think there is a happy medium, when you feel comfy in real life and still get the boost you want in photos. I think definitely ask her to tone down parts you weren't comfy. You want to feel beautiful on the day as well as in pictures, and she should definitely adjust.

Enjoy!!! And congratulations!

Hi @rosesarered94
Congratulations on your wedding!
I did my own make up hun. I was feeling so nervous but i done my make up just how i wanted it. I felt so comfortable and happy. Have an amazing day! x

I did my own makeup and although I was happy with it on the day, I must admit that it didn't show up much in the photos, and wish I'd worn more! So I think it's a tradeoff really

Slightly going against the grain here because I think if you don't like how you look in the mirror, you're also not going to like how you look in photos.

I had my wedding make up done professionally and I liked what she did with my skin. It was very natural, not orange and it didn't need to be orange "for photos".

I liked it in the mirror and I liked it in the photos too - that's how it should be!

I think she’s probably right about some things looking brash on your face but striking in the photos: my SIL is a makeup artist and looks stunning in her Insta and FB photos, but up close it’s very noticeably heavy makeup. I agree that if you don’t like how it looks and feels on your face, it’s not right for you and you’re going to feel self conscious on the day.

My friend with a good eye did my wedding makeup (our venue was such that professionals couldn’t attend and I couldn’t go to a salon) and emphasised my eyes with a lot of smokey tones but left the rest of my face relatively neutral, just my usual tinted moisturiser, powder and a tinted lip. I was really pleased with the outcome and it suited me much better to have one standout feature than a whole face.

Mainly, I wanted to look like me on my wedding day - rather than look back and think that the makeup was excellent, but know that it wasn’t really representative of what I look like.

Thank you everyone for your comments! I do want the photos to look lovely but at the same time don't want to feel self conscious on my wedding day so I'm going to go with my gut and do my own base and that way I'll be much more comfortable :)

I did mine and then my hair stylist (who is also a MUA) Did my eye shadow as that's the bit I struggle with. All went well!
