Hi all,

I am posting on behalf of my brother who is 26 and is watching to restart his educational career. Due to a combination of bad life choices and lack of support at school (he has autism, ADHD & dyslexia) he left school with 2 GCSES above a C grade and his English, maths & science grades D and below.

He managed to get onto a college course doing BTEC music however got suspended during his first year and by the time his suspension was lifted he was that behind on work he was totally overwhelmed and dropped out. Since then he has floated around from retail job to job.

He has since been put on medication for his ADHD and is doing much better with his concentration and has decided he would like to start a career however has no idea where to start. I’m not much help as I followed the traditional school, sixth form & uni route.

He has looked at access to higher education diploma however this would mean another year added on as they require C and above in Maths and English. He has an open day booked at a trades college to look at construction and election courses. Any other help would be very helpful as we don’t know anyone who has started over a little later with no qualifications and I know he is finding the whole thing really over whelming. He doesn’t have a driving license yet however test is booked for next year.

TIA.
