Anyone have an electronic chess set?

Sorry it isn't the most thrilling topic! DS loves chess and is trying to learn but DH and I don't play so he mainly plays it on his Ipad. His birthday is coming up and I thought this would be great but reviews are mixed. Any recommendations?

I don't know anything about those boards but is there a chance he could join a chess club? Mine has just joined one and loves it.

This is a book they have on sale at the club: Chess for Kids: How to Play and Win https://amzn.eu/d/fFXaLUY

Chess.com is a chess playing site. You play opponents to gain a ranking.

My understanding is that a proper electronic actual chess set is being developed currently but won't be available for at least another year. Or two.

You could sign him up for one to an online chess course/tutoring. Try Delaney online.

Ok, I can see that some AI chess sets have come out now. However, this is the one that we are holding out for. GoChess by Particula.
My son does have a smart cube as was massively into speedcubing, but he actually doesn't use it as much as his normal cubes anymore. He did use it a lot at first.

Thanks all. There are loads on amazon. So was looking at those.
No chess clubs near us. He is only in primary so no school clubs like this either.

The boards are very cool, but I second this... DS has a subscription, but there's also a free version.

My senior age very serious chess player (national level) doesn't have an electronic chess set and neither do any of his friends. They all play, all the time, on lichess.com which is more popular than chess.com

And I would bug the school to set up a chess club. If you're in London, PM me for the name of a great coach who would come and run it for them. Heads are usually keen on chess, good for logic, maths etc.

Also look on YouTube for tutorials on openings, middle games and end games.
