Desk for small bedroom

DD’s bedroom is small and awkward due to having a chimney breast. A wardrobe previously sat in this alcove space but I think a desk/storage unit would be better here due to the plugs underneath. This would also free up space across the chimney breast which currently has a large desk across it. The width of this alcove space is only 89cm though, and depth about 32cm. Does anyone have any suggestions of what would work best here? Bedroom door is also awkward but thinking of hanging it the other way. Single bed runs under the window.

I used to have a little foldable desk from Amazon that might fit the bill? Or the Micke desk from IKEA would fit.

In lockdowns my friend made a desk with a piece of kitchen worktop attached to the wall by hinges, so it could be put up and down when needed.

I'd just build a couple of shelves - one at appropriate desk height and a couple above for storage. If she's not sitting for long periods, a foldaway chair could be used instead of an office chair.

It would be easy to make your own here and look more bespoke. Batons into wall and worktop as PP suggested or wood top you can paint. Drill a hole in back for cables. Can be exact height and cover whole of space

Forgot to add, no DIY skills 😆

Google "ladder desks".

They were quite popular 4 or 5 years ago. They work quite well as long as you are happy with just a laptop and no extra monitors.

There are probably some on eBay by now.

Or go to a DIY store and vet them to cut you a shelf and buy some brackets.

Dd2 has a tiny desk from ikea. I think it was about £10 or £15. It might fit if they still sell them. Can’t remember the name of them as brought it ages ago.

I also recommend the Ikea Micke desk - we have the larger one in DS's alcove but he'd be just as fine with the narrower one (it doesn't have a side cabinet but does have a drawer under the desk - it's 73cm wide so would comfortably fit your space.

I’ve also got a little folding desk from Amazon and a folding chair. When I’m not working they both get hidden behind a rattan screen.

Thanks. The ceilings are high so I would like to add shelving of some sort to make the most of the wall space, as the floor space is minimal. Just had a look at the Micke desk, looks ideal as the smallest one would fit. I am thinking of putting a tall white Billy bookcase in the other alcove. But then I would need to find a more modern chest of drawers to go with these as the current one wouldn’t look right at all (country cottage style).

This sort of thing? Folds up very shallow.

That's it in situ.
