Day in London - what would you do?

I've unexpectedly got a free day tomorrow, so I thought I'd go into London. I can't decide what to do or where to go. I live on the outskirts so I know my way around pretty well.

No time limitations, no money limitations. Ideally not too expensive, but pricey ideas welcome too, to save up for another time.

So, hit me with your perfect London day. Thanks!

Marina Abramovic at the Royal Academy, Philip Gustom at the Tate Modern, or Tate Britain - mixture of the 3? - Find a theatre /play on?

TigerRag · 01/10/2023 14:08

Any areas in particular or areas you want to avoid?

Bpickle1 · 01/10/2023 14:08

Maybe also add in Novelty Automation ? has multiple "politically" themed arcade games which are good fun - and finish up with dinner in china town?

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2023 14:09

Just the day or the evening too?

If the evening go and see Bernadette Peters in Old Friends - just the most amazing show of Sondheim classics - incredible cast

CrapBucket · 01/10/2023 14:11

I would go to the thing at Tate Britain, it looks really nice but I can’t remember what it’s called. Also I’m still not over the novelty of the Elizabeth line especially if you do the Bakerloo line and switch, I love the contrast.

And I’d go to the pho place near Kingsway as I haven’t been there in forever and I miss it.

Have a great day whatever you decide to do.

CrapBucket · 01/10/2023 14:12

I’ve also heard the Sondheim thing is amazing! Not my cup of tea but everyone I know whose been has loved it.

marketing101 · 01/10/2023 14:20

I would go to St Paul's and spend a while in there listening to the headset.

Have a nice lunch

Go to aire roman spa

Borough Market, then walk along to Tate Modern.
I also really want to see the newly reopened national portrait gallery.

plotch · 01/10/2023 16:01

Portrait Gallery is a good shout, I've not been there since the reopening.

The Sondheim thing does look amazing.

I’d go for lunch somewhere that you couldn’t go with DC or something your DH doesn’t like! Just something more elevated than the normal prets sandwich etc.

Shoxfordian · 01/10/2023 16:50

Go and see Diva at the V&A and have some lunch in South Kensington after?

rockingbird · 01/10/2023 16:54

I'd head to this place.. nice lunch in nice surroundings. Weather is going to be good so a stroll along the south bank would also be on my list. I'm there Tuesday for a work function, I always do a spurge clothes shop at Westfield Stratford 🤩

skygarden.london/

Link would help 🤦‍♀️

Fifireee · 01/10/2023 16:58

I’m so jealous. Have a fab day.

Lovelyautumncolours · 01/10/2023 17:13

Take in views of Covent Garden at the Royal Opera rooftop piazza terrace - it opens from 12pm and serves drinks and light bites, no booking required.

plotch · 05/10/2023 10:18

Thanks for all your ideas. I went with the Portrait Gallery, as it's been closed a while. I've always enjoyed it there, and it was good to see how they'd changed it. I then went to Chinatown for loads of dumplings (rest of the family hate Chinese!), a wander through Covent Garden and then across to the South Bank, more wandering and home.

I should have days like that more often.
