How do I use my Nest heating?

Inherited it with the house, never used it before.
The thermostat is in the warmest part of the house, the rest being a bit chilly.
Do I set it to a slightly higher temperature (say 20) so that the rest of the house actually gets to a decent temperature, otherwise the hallway/kitchen will be nice and warm but the other rooms freezing, however this will mean the warm room is pretty hot.
Do I also put it on permanently or do I use the timer?
if I use the timer I’m guessing I set the heat warm up to 1 hour to stop it clicking in at 4am and I set it for the higher temperature (so say to reach 18 by 6am) then set it to cool down at say 7.30 am so that the house has started cooling before we leave?

I’ve got the app and I’ve set the timers as above, but I don’t know if that’s the best way to use it? I’m edgy about a large bill. I’ve switched off the learning part too, because I’ve seen there’s been problems with that and it randomly coming on?

Any hint and tips??

Mine has the option to say where it is in the house, probably to account for the above - do you have this setting?

I do, but my wifi can be a bit patchy so it doesn’t seem to work so well
