Audio books...Alexa...bedtime...DS10

Hello all. DS10 is NOT a reader, but he does love books and still enjoys being read to. His bedtime has gotten later and I've started a new job = I've got less, energy, brain power and headspace to read to him. I literally can't string the sentence together out loud some nights.

He's been listening to Alexa story time stories recently. He seems to enjoy them but I find them awful to listen to. I also find it incredibly annoying, when I tell Alexa to stop as he's dropped off to sleep, that she shouts 'Bye bye butterfyl!' at the top of her bloody voice and wakes him up as often as not.

He's tried Calm before and liked some of those stories, but this requires him having a phone in his room and that's not something I want.

I'm thinking there must be a way to play proper, beautifully read audio books through Alexa? If I signed up to Audible, can I play that through Alex? Any alternatives? And if I do that, is there a way to set it to play a chapter a night or similar?

Thanks.

Yes you can 100% play Audible books through Alexa and also turn them off remotely from the app.

If you whisper to Alex's, she'll whisper back.

Excellent, thanks for confirming that. Will give it a go.

Hi there,
I totally understand your concerns; I've been in the same boat with my child. What worked for us was a mix of ASMR, soothing music, and engaging stories with calm narrations. I actually created some dinosaur stories myself, tailored to be 15 minutes long, and saved in mp3 format. This way, they can be played softly through a JBL speaker without the need for a screen or a phone in the room.
If you're interested, I'd be happy to share them with you
