I'm sick of the watery crappy tasteless tomatoes supermarkets seem to have.
Where sells nice tomatoes with actual flavour.

Used mostly in bruschetta or salads.

The 'on the vine' ones in most supermarkets taste pretty good as long as you don't keep them in the fridge.

Redlarge · 30/09/2023 21:54

Lidl on the vine

PuddleBoots · 30/09/2023 22:09

Any local grocers- they sell the best fruit veg bread imo and it's also always good to support independent business. Near here we have wonderful Turkish and Iranian food shops. They have the best baklava and olives too!

Turkish shops.

I agree with a local greengrocer or farm shop. Supermarket tomatoes are tasteless.

IHaveAskedYouThriceNow · 30/09/2023 22:14

Booths, on the vine.
Have tried tomatoes from all over the place, Booths beat them all hands down.

I'll try the European supermarkets in town 👍

Italian, Eastern European, or Turkish/ kurdish shops. They aren't cheap but taste amazing.

NanTheWiser · 30/09/2023 22:14

Sainsbury’s Majestic on the vine are my go-to. Usually 7 tomatoes in a pack, just right for one every morning for m breakfast.

friedplantain2023 · 30/09/2023 22:16

Also worth noting that Indian carrots off the charts

INeedNewShoes · 30/09/2023 22:18

My favourite supermarket tomatoes are the Isle of Wight tomatoes which Ocado sells

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 30/09/2023 22:19

Italy!

nocoolnamesleft · 30/09/2023 22:19

Have you tried a local greengrocer? Mine regularly has in some nice heritage mixes.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/09/2023 22:23

M&S, or even Asda’s Extra Special U.K. grown - only in the season though.

WhamBamThankU · 30/09/2023 22:24

I recently bought some cheap Asda 'salad tomatoes', left them out of the fridge for about 4 days and they ripened/sweetened beautifully.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 30/09/2023 22:29

Tesco baby plum tomatoes are always nice.

Dobbybigearsdog · 30/09/2023 22:42

I never thought to freeze tomatoes, do you freeze them sliced up?

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/09/2023 22:48

Wherever you can get what's in season and dependent on whether local is important to you. Isle of Wight tomatoes are the best uk ones imo.

FunnysInLaJardin · 30/09/2023 22:49

your own greenhouse, next year!

Although I did pick the last 4 tomatoes in my greenhouse this afternoon

Towerofsong · 30/09/2023 22:59

I've had some really nice large salad tomatoes on the vine from both LIDL and Tesco recently. I let them ripen in my kitchen, out of the fridge. After a week of ripening they were soooo nice!

mondaytosunday · 30/09/2023 23:15

Piccobella tomatoes from Tesco are always full of flavour.

LBOCS2 · 01/10/2023 10:02

On the vine, but I think the trick is to smell them - they have a very distinctive smell which gets stronger the closer to ripe they are.

I was about to say this. They’re amazing and seem to last for weeks.

Morrisons on the vine, much better than Waitrose.
