Competitions

I do t usually enter competitions and on the rare occasion that I do, I never win.

I'm interest in a current competition. It's to win a house and it is legitimate. I know of someone who has a friend who entered a similar competition and she won. I know this for sure too.

I am interested in entering because the prize is fantastic however, I am apprehensive. The ticket is expensive (100 pounds) and I never win competitions.

I know a lady who bought a scratch card and won 5000 so wins do happen.

What do you guys think? Will I enter? I would love to win a home but it's 100 pounds and I never win anything. Last thing I won was a bar of soap in school at about age 10.

I wouldn't bother and I enter a lot of (free to enter) competitions.

I wouldn't pay for a stamp or a text to enter a competition, let alone £100.

Let's say the house is 1/2 million (they extend to be a lott more in these things) that means for 1 winning ticket there has to be 5000 losing ones just for them to break even. And that's before you take other costs into account.

I guess that's the basis of all gambling, but £100 is a hell of a lot to spend on such long odds unless you can easily afford to lose it.

Doggymummar · 30/09/2023 21:02

If you can afford to lose it. Otherwise no.

Potdora · 30/09/2023 21:34

I never thought about that.

I did some rough calculations
House is worth 275k.
A rough estimate maybe - 50 k other costs and may 150 k profit so that would be 47500 tickets at 100.

I never thought about that.

Actually my sums are wrong up there - maybe 4750 or approx 5000.

Yeah, the odds are unreal.
