Can Sainsbury's sell out of date food?

I've just bought some Heinz veg hoops (yes they're vile but it's something ASC DC will eat). They are dated June 2023. I only noticed when putting away. They were reduced to clear but I thought things still had to be in date to be sold?

They will be 'best before' as they are a canned food, which is different from 'use by'.

'Use by' means food will likely go off after that date. 'Best before' just means that it might not be the same quality/taste, but it won't be off.

They will be a best before date not a use by date. They cannot sell food with a use by date after the date but they can sell food with a best before date.

Oh yeah good point. I'm not worried about them being off as they're tinned was just a bit surprised. But had forgotten about bbe and use by 🤦‍♀️
