It's another TV licence one...

Hello Mumsnet!!

I am officially at my wits end, I have been getting weekly letters from the TV Licensing company, threatening to take me to court and letting me know a 'IN01O0A38' has been put in place (whatever that is?!), HOWEVER the final straw is that I've just checked my postbox to find a letter - hand delivered - letting me know basically enforcement officers had visited but I was not in, and they'll be visiting again soon.

I have a TV licence! I've paid every single month since August 2018, all my details are up to date, I renew it yearly with the last renewal date being 31st July this year. It's under the correct address, the direct debit goes out every single month, I have years worth of email confirmations and my TV licence number etc.

How do I make these letters and visits stop?! The only thing I can find online is to tell them I don't need a TV licence or to buy a TV licence - nothing to tell them I already have one. I can't get through to them on the helpline, again that just directs me to buy one - I'm at a bloody loss! I hate the idea they've visited my home and can / will just turn up at any given time.

Has anyone had this before, how did you resolve it?

IN.... numbers are a bit of threat theatre from TVL. They don't mean anything.

TVL are employing meter reading companies to drop A4 cards ("letters") at people doors. Again, they don't really mean anything, and it's unlikely that they really wanted to make contact with you. (I wonder what they say if they do meet the householder?)

A few suggestions for getting it sorted out...

  • Talk to your MP - they have a special hotline to TVL, and would hopefully sort this out in minutes.
  • Make a formal complaint using the details on the TVL website.
  • Cancel your Licence and immediately reinstate it.

I just ignore them and bin them. Had a letter once a month for the last eight years or so. Had them at the door once, said no thank you and closed it. I wouldn't give it any head space.
