Please help. I’d like to get him something that will last. He doesn’t want a smart watch. I haven’t got a clue! Budget £10000

I'd take him to a good quality jewellers so you can discuss what he might like.

Definitely not a smart watch as the tech will get superseded in a few years and it will lose most of its value. I would encourage him to choose something really classic that is as much an investment piece as a 18th present.

Omega Seamasters look like good investments at the moment. Or a Rolex or a Tudor Black Bay.

Oh dear, thank you so much for replying. My finger got trigger happy.
Budget £1000!
But everything else applies

Maybe a Tag Huer? They have shops at a lot of the outlets

Following this. My son is 18 in a couple of months not sure what to get. Thought of a signet ring

Ah, that's much more like the budget we had but you never know on mumsnet!

But yes, the same thing applies. A good jeweller should be able to help him pick the best watch for the budget.

@chocolateanddietcoke
Thank you, I do live near a huge village. I’ll pop in and take a look

@dyzzie
Sweet idea. I’m not sure my boy would wear a signet ring, it would have to compete with the little blue heart silver band his girlfriend gave him. He only wears it when he’s with her, keeps it on his keychain at all other times, thinks we haven’t seen it. Too cute! I can’t compete with that.

There are bargains to be had at the outlets, Chester oaks etc. They have watch shops including TAG.

CurlewKate · 30/09/2023 14:55

I don't think the young wear watches these days. Are you sure he wants one?

Anewuser · 30/09/2023 14:58

We got our son a Tag Heuer for the same budget. He loves it and still wears it daily, 5 years on. The recent service of it was staggering though.

Pinkpinkplonk · 30/09/2023 16:33

@CurlewKate well he’s just been paid for his summer holiday job and asked if I would help him choose a watch, as that what he’d like to spend his hard earned cash on! So I guess that means he really does want one.
I suggested as his 18th was coming up would he like it as a present instead. He’s delighted. We’ve just looked at some websites and I’m getting some ideas

@Anewuser he has pointed out some TAGs!
Tbh they’re very nice, and I do have an outlet on my doorstep
