Dropped phone, Small crack on phone screen

Hello,

I dropped my phone by accident this morning. I was supposed to put it into my pocket but it didn't go into my pocket and it fell on the floor unfortunately.

There's a small tiny little circle crack on the screen now. It's only tiny. But do you think I could get many more months out from this phone. It's still only new-ish since June of this year so this is unfortunately. I meant to get a case for the phone but I never got a chance.

Did it have a screen protector? If not get one will stop the crack spreading (I think )

FlibbertyGibbitt · 30/09/2023 09:37

You could get it repaired. I had to do this on mine once as I dropped it on concrete and the whole screen went black 🙄 I’ve got one of the wallet cases now to protect it

Whu · 30/09/2023 09:48

I’ve had a cracked screen for over a year it’s in the top corner and doesn’t effect use.

IamSmarticus · 30/09/2023 09:51

I had multiple cracks across my last phone for over a year - dropped it onto concrete and couldn't really afford/didn't want to pay the +£100 price to get it fixed. It didn't affect the usability at all, just meant that some things were slightly more difficult to see due the cracks!

UnalliterativeGeorge · 30/09/2023 09:53

I did the same and put a screen protector on, carefully shutting the stable door late, but it's a year and a half later and it's not got any bigger so it's cheaper than getting it fixed or a new phone

Potdora · 30/09/2023 10:13

Thank you for all of the replies. I will order a screen protector and case now.

As soon as I get a phone, I immediately get a case, and a screen protector put on. To not seems very silly.

That's helpful! 🙄

I cracked my screen and got it repaired in an independent place for about £40, it was absolutely fine after that.

Oblomov23 · 30/09/2023 11:17

Not really. Kinda factual. Op either now gets it mended. Or doesn't. Then puts a screen protector and a case on it. Or doesn't. Her choice.

Be careful not to rub your finger over the crack, the glass is very sharp although the splinters are invisible. It took a day to get the splitter from my IPad screen corner ( listening in the bathroom I am 🤡) out and it was very sore.

monpetitlapin · 30/09/2023 11:24

Watch out when buying/using screen protectors. I bought a screen protector to stop this happening and the screen protector was billed as being really tough etc but it broke within 2 weeks (never dropped). It completely shattered but stayed stuck to the phone screen which was really dangerous as my baby often grabs my phone. I had to spend ages peeling every piece of glass off my phone.

Since then I've dropped my phone and got an identical crack to yours OP but I'm really reluctant to put another dangerous screen protector on it.

Does anyone have recommendations of screen protectors that are actually not going to crack like that? I'd ideally like a plastic one but I think it would cause issues with the touchscreen??

MenopauseSucks · 30/09/2023 11:40

I have friends whose cracked screens have lasted til they got a new phone - at least a year. They put on a screen protector after the crack which helped. Their screens were more cracked than yours.
Maybe you could try this?

Pointless anecdote alert...

I had a screen protector on my phone put on by Apple when I got it. I also got a plastic cover for added protection as I'm really clumsy.
I dropped my phone outside & it hit a rock. Of course it didn't fall down on the cover side.
Oh no, it fell on the screen side & which crackedConfused

The crack was in the centre of the screen but it wasn't getting worse.
It was getting on my nerves so back to Apple I went ready to spend probable £££ on a new screen.
The nice man at Apple looked at it, said 'hmmm' a few times, peeled off the screen protector & the crack wasn't there!
The screen protector had cracked not the screenSmile
I guess that's how they're supposed to work.

This morning is not my morning at all. I found a stray cat in my bed so I decided to wave yesterdays clothing/dress up and down banging my bed to shoo him away and I ended up banging the bulb out of it's socket. It's ok. I have a bedside light.

Thank God it's Saturday, I have a can of two later on.

Mine has a very small crack top.left hand corner. Been like that for months and it's fine

MenopauseSucks · 30/09/2023 13:10

@Potdora

Where did the cat come from??

Potdora · 30/09/2023 14:12

He came in my window and went to sleep in my bed.

My son has a crack on his screen and it’s not affected use thankfully. I was surprised when someone said it cost them £230 to get their phone screen replaced the other day 😣

VisionsOfSplendour · 30/09/2023 14:21

Pretty much everyone in my family has a cracked phone screen, mine has been like that for about 9 months, doesn't affect my use of the phone at all and yes, I have a case and a screen protector, I dont know how it happened
